So sorry to hear the sad news of Mrs. Byrne's passing. Such a solid Mother and determined character who didn't suffer fools but was a great help to so many people at different times including my late grandfather, who loved being a part of the Byrne family in Raceys and for which we are forever grateful for. May she rest in peace. Sincere condolences to all her family, extended family and many friends.

Dad and I are so very sorry we can't be there with you today to pay our respects and remember the good times. I have so many wonderful memories of my eternally welcoming, soft natured, Aunt Deirdre throughout my life, from my first books when I could barely read, to shopping until you drop in Macys in NY with 5 Fitzer women, and then back to my 3rd floor Brooklyn apt for Chinese food, mucho Bacardi's, and line dancing until the early hours.... I don't know how I wasn't evicted !!

I can't help remembering either, the last time I saw Deirdre, over breakfast with Dolores and Tina, and the sisters bickering over who was putting too much butter on the toast. Sisters, very, very, close sisters, and you could always feel the love. I remember Deirdre smiling at me in Dolores' kitchen, I can see her now as I write this, and she looked good, so good that I guess I fooled myself into thinking she would be good, at least for another few years. I can't stop the tears right now.

I am very glad that Deirdre is no longer suffering. She will be dearly missed, and I know that there are no tears in heaven, but I'd like to think that there's at least a few shops, a Penney's, a Pound shop, and a few Thrift/Goodwill shops. Mam will be waiting for Deirdre and she'll already know where all the best bargains are. That thought makes me smile. Love to all.
