On behalf of the community of Carrick-on-Shannon we would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family and coleagues of Deirdre.
We are always extremely distraught and upset when a visitor to our town suffers such a sad accident.
If there is any consolation for her family, in these extraordinary times, it is the absolute assurance that your beloved Dee is but a twinkle of an eye away from us all.
May her gracious soul rest in peace.
— Carrick-on-Shannon community
I first met Deirdre when she was the detective assigned to my sexual assault case nearly 20 years ago. The first time I sat in the statement room in Bray Garda Station with family members, I had never felt so alone and vulnerable. When the door swung open, in walked this absolute force of a woman with the most infectious smile. I was the only person she acknowledged in the room when she first walked in, she had no interest in listening to anyone else, she just wanted to know what I had to say. I may not have felt able to smile or laugh that day, but I knew the next time we met she would have me smiling in no time, and she always did.

She regularly kept in touch with myself and my family for years afterwards, ultimately becoming a close family friend. She was unapologetically fierce and brave in her demeanour, and it is because of her that I had the courage needed in those difficult times. This is because she lent me her courage, her bravery, which she seemed to possess by the truckload. Deirdre was a force of nature in herself, and she was on my side.

I am absolutely heartbroken that after everything she has done for others in her lifetime that she does not get to have her 'happily ever after', but I hope her family can take some solace in the fact the she is responsible for allowing so many to take back our 'happily ever after'. Everything I have today, I owe to Deirdre Finn. May she rest in peace.
— Claire
My heartfelt condolences to the Finn family, closest friends and colleagues in the F. While I hadn’t seen Dee in a number of years she had left impressionable memories. I remember great nights out in the DMR East. She was one of the warmest people I ever met. And the smile and laugh that everyone remembers. She will leave such a void in so many peoples lives. Rest easy Dee ♥️

I sat yesterday with another old school friend and watched your funeral mass Dee. We cried and we laughed and shared memories of school together. We were still shocked and heartbroken, but were able to smile and laugh at the stories we heard, you were obviously a bigger mischief maker than we ever knew.
My heartfelt sympathies to your family and loved ones, you will be deeply missed.
Rest in peace lovely lady.

To Pat, Cormac, Dermot and extended family I am so sorry for the loss of your darling daughter and sister Deirdre. Taken from you too soon but what a beautiful send off you gave her.

To my Beloved Finners, I am heartbroken. I won't be able to compliment your "lovely skin", give out to you for shushing me when we all got together because you couldn't hear some juicy gossip, I won't see you eye-roll because of something I did or let's be fair, something I've said... I will miss my sounding board... but most of all I am going to miss your smile, your hugs and hearing your wickedly loud infectious laugh when we all got together.

Our nights away will never be the same..

Rest easy my friend, sailing the skies, back with your beautiful Mam.

To Mr Finn, who even on one of the saddest days for the Finn Family, insisted on being called Pat. The hugs Cormac and Dermot gave out to the people who Dee knew. We now know where Dee got her generosity of spirit and warmth.

Met Dee through work, and through the years a friendship developed with a lovely group of girls, through good times and bad times, everyone was there for each other, most especially Ms Finn at the centre of it all directing proceedings.. it was mighty crack!!

Im so glad we went crazy over the years taking pictures as those images are now the most treasured.

Rest easy missus, you'll be sorely missed.
