Deirdre ( Dee) was my college friend.. she was Godmother to my daughter, Shauna. I loved her dearly. RIP my beautiful soul friend. We lost touch recently. Reunited with family members .Always in my heart. Mary and Bill xxxx

Only heard of the death of Deirdre this last week . My sincerest sympathy to the family. I was a boarder in Laurel Hill, a few years younger than Deirdre. She was a great friend to me. She in fact gave me a lovely necklace on entering the convent. So sorry we didn't keep in touch after that. What a truly great and big character she was. RIP

I am so very sorry that I was unable to attend Deirdres beautiful mass , regrettably, I still have The Shingles.
The Houlihans were massively generous to us growing up. I remember being late starting boarding school due to getting The Asian Flu ; Consequently, Auntie Oonagh sent me a present on arrival, of a magnificent Italian silk, designer scarf. Likewise, on another occasion, Uncle Ignatius arrived to Cragfield with a black felt sleeve with semi precious stones, one for each of us to choose.
Deirdre was full of kindness, thoughtfulness and empathy and was especially devoted to her parents, family and friends. We had so many very long chats on the telephone. I christened her camper van, her ‘ Artic Bubble ‘, which gave her indescribable joy and delight and one would never know in latter years, when she would in the evening time, cruise up our avenue laden with a variety of quiches and apple tarts. I often got one to bring back to Dublin. Then, her handmade craft cards were an absolute pleasure to receive.

I met her just a few months ago in a cafe in Ennis and we had a great chat. A lady who was always interesting to meet.

You always felt the better for contact with Deirdre. She was a most unselfish person, a beautiful human being, interested and interesting.
