Denis was the SIPTU official I worked with as Plant Director of Shamrock Apparel in the 1980’s. He was someone from whom I learnt a lot. His quiet dignity and passion for workers rights made him a truly effective representative. His word was his bond and he was much respected by all employees and management. Along the pathway of life, you come across people who leave an indelible print on your memory. Denis Carr was such a person. I was so privileged also, to engage his wonderful friendship and, most of all, the benefit of his wisdom & advice. For the years I was heavily involved with Trade Union activity, I shared some wonderful unforgettable times in the company of Denis. He was Dublin to the core and his love and dedication to the Trade Union, Labour movement as well as the GAA, through his club & county, was total. How I enjoyed his great stories and yarns and his pride in showing me around his beloved St Oliver Plunkett’s clubhouse & facilities.
I extend my most sincere sympathy to his son Brendan and the Carr family.
