So sad to hear the sad news of my dearest cousin denis,i remember when you came to belgium..we had a great time,we laughed so much,i have such nice memories with denis, rest in peace my dear cousin...you are with the angels now ☘☘☘☘⚘⚘⚘⚘
I met Denis through my work with the UN Broadband Commission and always enjoyed his company. He had a keen mind and a great sense of how technology could be used for a more positive and inclusive society. A wonderful storyteller and raconteur who will be much missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Very sad to hear of Denis‘s passing. I will remember his larger than life personality and his passion for humanitarian causes. May he rest in Peace.
So, so sad to see Denis go. My heart goes out to his family. And to his extended global family, one that gathered in everyone from random strangers to ministers to tech giants to rock stars. Lots of journalist colleagues. I zoomed in on a WHO Digital Health roundtable late last year, and his talents were once more on display, as he brought in the best thinkers and asked the tough questions about how world leaders could be persuaded to do the right thing. He did that a lot in his life. Driven by a sense of purpose and justice, but sweet, funny, often outrageous. Everyone has a story about Denis. Now, those are the memories we keep.
So sad to hear about Denis's passing and condolences to his family and loved ones. I remember Denis as a supernova, who lived life to the fullest (I love that picture of him on a boat in the link that Liz supplied supplied) and whose motto surely was “go for it.” He was a charismatic entreprenour who had an impact in the worlds of international telecom and digital health as well as on those of us who worked with him. And he was a lot of fun. I remember sitting in the Hotel Intercontinental in Geneva where he helped me negotiate a deal that ended up being worth millions for CMP. He laughed when he mentioned this about a friend but it could have easily applied to him: “He put the bar in Bahrain.”
Denis was my first ever boss. I had no idea at the time how lucky I was. From a 13 hour interview in the bars of Paris to the Networked Economy conferences I was swept along on his coattails for a wild few years. I only realized with hindsight that he was a true visionary. We lost touch for years but last year I was SO gratified to get a reply to my message where he asked after me so kindly and updated me on the incredible work he had been doing in digital health. I was shocked to hear that he had died and taken aback by the impact this news has had on me. What an incredible man. To see Bronwyn and Graham post messages here has taken me back to Paris in the 90s. That was quite a time and he was the centre of it all. I send my condolences to his family and close friends.
I didn’t get to know Dennis all that well but when I got a job as an assistant editor in the telecom media in 1990 he, more than any one else, was busily making telecom cool – making it rock’n roll. First as Editor, then Publisher, of Communications Week International. He had extraordinary charisma. As a journalist, back in the day when a scoop was for days or weeks, not just hours or minutes, he was so incredibly good at engaging with ‘movers and shakers’ that he became one in his own right. I know little of his work after telecom but it’s really not hyperbole to say that in telecom media circles, Dennis really was a Legend in his own lifetime. Was then. Is now. Always will be. RIP.
I was so sorry to hear this terrible news. I have many happy memories of times spent with Denis, one of the funniest, bravest and most generous people I have ever met—he lit up every room he entered. He was a good friend and supporter for me in my career, and I only regret having lost touch with him in recent years. My sincere condolences to his family at this difficult time.
My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Denis. So sad to learn of Denis's passing and have many memories of working with him .A man of many talents. Rest in peace, Denis.
Sincere sympathy on the passing of Denis. May he rest in peace.
Rest in peace our dear cousin Denis, many happy childhood memories of good times shared. God bless you on your final journey. Much love Henrietta, Steve, Alex and Nathan
Deeply saddened to hear about Denis’s sudden death. We had lost touch but I shall always remember our days working on the same telecoms magazine. And his love of literature. Many memories. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
I was very saddened to hear of the loss of Denis. It was an honor to work with him on global digital health initiatives. He represented the most vulnerable in societies around the world, striving to make their lives better. His literacy genius captured the minds of great leaders. In his work for the UN, The World Bank, the Broadband Commission and during the current pandemic the WHO, he constantly strived for global health equity and security using technology. He was tremendously proud of his Irish roots. My deepest condolences to Brenda, Marion and all the family. You are in our thoughts and prayers. May he Rest in Peace.
Dont know Denis but as a Sligo man I am very proud of his achievements on the world stage .Sincere condolences to his family on his sad passing . R.I.P. Denis
Very sad to hear of Denis' untimely passing. I was happy to work with him particularly in the Global Health field during and after the Ebola response in West Africa. He was a humanitarian and I hope his family take consolation from the support of his friends and colleagues.
Sleep in peace until we meet again, Denis - Marie

Heartfelt sympathies to Marian, Brenda and families and to the Gilhooly family in Sligo and the US
