Denis Murphy was a Listowel legend - fulfilling a lifetime dream, becoming the first Kerryman to own the winner of the Guinness Kerry National when Flute Player won the coveted race on Denis' home track in 1986.
As generous, beguiling and loquacious a Listowel man as ever existed, he was a Kerryman to his core. My late father, John B, and Denis shared a lifelong, loyal fraternal friendship that never, ever faltered – backing each other to the hilt, come what may.
Denis worshipped his late wife, Briede, his soulmate.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Denis' cherished daughters, Patricia, Denise and Ann, his adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren Kevin, Conor, Tara, Michelle, Jennifer, Leann, Rían, Éabha, Adam, Isobel, Georgia, and Frances, the wider Murphy, Flavin and Harris clans, as well as his innumerable friends throughout the globe.

Denis was a great man who loved life and his native Kerry and above all Listowel and all it stood for ; football literature and racing . He had great days as owner of Flute Player ( who like Denis his owner was quite a character) and enjoyed none more than winning on the Kerry tracks. Denis sent him to me for his retirement where he enjoyed his last days . Denis and Breide wete great friends and had great craic with my father Denis (RIP) and my mom Marie when they lived in England in 1950s maintaining the Kerry clan bonds of friendship May Denis Rest In Peace beside his beloved wife Breide
