I was away on a “break” in Lanzarote, with son Ronan & his wife Aoife at the time of this sad event and only learned of Denis’s passing from recent “Parish Newsletter” with reference to his “Month’s Mind” mass. He was such a wonderful, friendly, open man and it was such a pleasure to have known him. L

Dear Hannah and family, my deepest condolences on the death of your beloved Denis. Denis was a rock of goodness, patience & common sense. In his quiet way he gave hope & inspiration to so many people. Hannah, you and Denis helped establish the Adi Roche’s Chernobyl Children’s Outreach Group in Whitehall in 1995, giving beautiful experiences & health benefits to so many children from Belarus, Western Russia & Ukraine over the years. I have lovely memories of packing gift bags for our new arrivals with you both in your home - the excitement we felt on realizing our goals. Denis epitomizes the meaning of a gentleman. So gracious, so welcoming, so interested in people. I loved meeting him on the street or in the Omni SC - he made my day brighter. He will be truly missed. May his gentle soul Rest in Peace

He guided myself and my work colleagues successfully through our exams in the '90's which was no mean feat. Denis left a lasting impression on us all. May he rest in peace.

ITS IRONIC THAT DENIS STARTED IN Aerligus and MICHAEL ENDED UP IN AERLINGUS BEFORE HE GOT THAT TERRIBLE ILLNESS THAT TOOK HIM IN THE ENDCALLED PICKS DISEASE . I HAVE TO SAY THAT HE WAS SO DELIGHTED TO MAKE CONTACT WITH DENIS WHO TAUGHT HIM HIS MECHANICS IN BOLTON STREETALL THOSE YEARS AGO MICHAEL WAS DIAGNOSED AT AGE OF 52 AND PASSED AWAY AT 62.IT WAS FR TOM O'KEEFFE THAT INTRODUCED. YSELF AND MICHAEL IN NOVEMBER 1974AND WE GOT MARRIED ON 15 NOVEMBER 1975 AND HE DID HIS FUNERAL MASS IN AUGUST 2014.So I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH AT THE MOMENT .GOD GIVE YOU ALL THE STRENGTH FROM YOUR GREAT MEMORIES. So sorry to hear this news. Denis was a gentleman and I enjoyed my interactions with him in college during his working career and for many years after he had "officially" retired.

Very sorry to hear of Denis' passing. I only ever met Declan once at his home where I interviewed himself and his wife Hannah for a book. I was impressed by his hospitality, his lively mind and his insights into supporting those who are marginalised. May he be rewarded for a life well lived!

It is with great sadness that I learned of Denis’s passing. My sincere condolences to his wife Hannah and the extended McGrath family.
I have known Denis since I was an apprentice attending Bolton St and some years later as an Instructor there myself. He had a great presence in any room he entered and he could bring laughter, fun and tears into any conservation.
My one regret is the missed coffee we promised each other whenever we bumped into each other.
