Condolences to Denis’ relations, neighbours, friends and former work colleagues. Denis was a kind and unassuming gentleman.
A few of us kicked ball with Denis in the summers of long ago, in Banemore, below in Allman’s Wood. Here we vied for possession among the feileastrams and forged friendships.
Denis progressed to playing with the Halfway Rovers senior soccer team, whose home pitch was the ‘Graveyard Field’ in Kilshenane. Denis was a team player and a mainstay on the team. He always gave of his best for the sky-blue and white jersey. Indeed, it turns out that Denis was an all-time, all-rounder.
His father Moss, who was our popular long-serving Postman, and his dearest mother, Nell, will now be re-united with their beloved son. Also re-uniting with Denis will be three of his former Halfway Rovers teammates, who sadly, have passed on. May all their gentle souls rest in eternal peace.

Sad to hear of the passing of Denis. He put enormous effort into Crotta hurling teams at underage. He used to pick us up in Kilflynn cross and he’d go mad when he’d see us pucking stones or if he had to wait for fellas to come out of Parker’s buying sweets before heading to the game. Took 13 of us once in his hatchback car to a game in O’Dorney; and he’d be thrilled if we won. Always wanting us to do well & he’d no problem in telling us if he thought we could do better aswell. A bit of a devilish grin also and just enjoyed the craic of the game and the wind ups in the car. He would have been thrilled with Crotta winning the county championship this year. Deepest sympathy to the Family, Cousins and Friends of Denis. I first met Denis when he asked me to play for Half Way Rovers underage and Senior teams in the early eighties. He used to collect me and bring me to every game and he was great company for a car journey no matter how long or short it was as we travelled most of the county. I will always remember how thrilled Denis was when against all the odds half way Rovers won the Youths Cup in 1982. Denis and Gerry Fuller managed the team.
He also had a great love for Crotta and loved to discuss hurling anytime I met him. He was a pure Gent. God Rest Denis
