Deepest sympathy to the family of Denis. He was a true gentleman and great friend to my mother Nancy who he visited regularly on his trips home. I have fantastic memories of dinner with him in NYC. May he rest in peace.
Denis was the most entertaining man you could ever meet. He was full of fun & knowledge. I had the pleasure of traveling to Prague with Denis (randomly I must admit) It was one of my most memorable trips! His knowledge of life, New York geography, films, politics but mostly plain old life was just special - yes Denis you definitely, ‘did it’ your ‘way’ and for sure not ‘in a shy way’ rest easy I hope you’re up there watching the black & white films 🙌 Rest easy Denis ❤️
Sincere sympathy to the Smith family also his cousins Denise & Mary on the death of Denis. May his soul Rest In Eternal Peace.

Deepest sympathy to Denis’ family and many, many friends. A consummate and engaging host, generous to a fault, wonderful company, and a bridge to New York for so many of us. He never forgot Cootehill, and in 60 years away did not give up his accent. Ní bheidh a leithêid ann arís. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.

To The Family Of Denis:
Our Sincerest Condolences.
Denis was a lifelong friend of my Father Jim; they grew up together in the 1930’s in two townhouses directly opposite each other in an alley off Market Street in Cootehill.
Their friendship endured and flourished throughout the decades and made the jump across the pond to New York. We have fond memories of the many holidays including Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter and special occasions such as birthdays, graduations and weddings that we celebrated together. He will be sorely missed.
May Denis Rest in Peace.
With Love, Deirdre and Noelle

Denise, sorry to hear of Denis's passing, may he rest in peace
Denis grew up next door to my family the Hannons in Cootehill. He was a great friend to my uncle Jim Hannon in New York and hosted us all as we lived and traveled to New York and treated us as family. My grandmother Kitty used to give him the Christmas pudding and cake to bring over to Jim and Mary in New York! Denis and Jim met every Friday for lunch on 81st st and 3rd. Even after Jim died My aunt Noelle and he were good friends. He will be missed.
Condolences to all of the Smith family on the sad passing of Denis, a lifelong friend of my Dad and we as a huge family received a Christmas Turkey every year for over 20 years as a thank you for my Dad for helping Denis out a lifetime ago. May his gentle and kind soul rest in peace 🕊️
Sincere condolences to the Family of Denis. A true gentle man in the true sense of the word. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
If integrity, kindness, gentleness, generosity, diligence, loyalty were called for, stand up Denis Smith. He encapsulated all that was good in a person and although he left his native town over sixty years ago to make a new life for himself in America he never forgot "the town he loved so well" and was a regular visitor where he renewed old acquaintances and made new friends on each occasion. He had a particular relationship with my grand parents, Aggie and Barney Sherlock, whom he sɔught out at his earliest convenience and to whom he was so generous. He was most helpful to many Irish immigrants and especially those from Cootehill to whom he gave good advice when they arrived in New York.He was part of a highly respected family where he picked up all his good values, especially from his mother whose kindness and generosity I remember well. I extend my sincerest condolences to Hugh,Denise, Mary and Ann Moĺloy and to all of Denis's nephews and nieces and many friends on his sad passing, but who must gain succour and joy for his long life well lived until the end." Far from the madding crowd his noble wishes never learned to stray. Along the cool sequestered vale of life he kept the noiseless tenor of his way. Large was his bounty and his soul sincere, Heaven as a recompense did largely send. He gained from Heaven ( twas all he wished) a friend. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam.
Sincere condolences to Denis' family and friends. Aways entertaining, interesting, interested and eager to help in any way - a vital presence at so many gatherings down through the years. Solas na bhlaitheas ar a anam dhíl.
Rest in peace 🙏
