My deepest sympathy to David,Isolde,jeff and to Denises Dad ,i had the pleasure of knowing Denise for a very long time she was a fabulous person and i was extremely fond of her i knew Denise was sick as she was telling me when we last met and i am absolutely shocked at her so soon passing we shared many stories dwn through the years as you get to know people so well when i was so long doing her hair she loved life and was a great person i will very much miss her and will always remember her. ❤️ Rest in peace Denise your hairdresser valerie T xx

I first met Denise in early 1973 when I traveled to Shannon from the US as a senior in college. I was there to join the English Department at Saint Patrick's Comprehensive School as a student teacher. Eileen Garvey was my supervising teacher and while I was there I met all of the Garvey family. Denise was 12 at the time. Over these many years I stayed in touch with Eileen and Clem and even visited with them in the summer of 2015. Denise reached out to me when Eileen died and we began a lovely correspondence. Denise and I shared the ups and downs of our lives, her wonderful, moving poetry, the career she loved, her devotion to her father and her partner David, and in her final letter the fact of her illness. Her letter was heartfelt and peaceful. Though more than a decade older than she, I admired her resilience as well as her powerful writing. I've thought of her often these past few months and will continue to miss our lengthy exchanges. She was special and unique. Love and sympathy to her friends and family.
