To dearest Mary Nicola Gavin and all of your family. Words cannot describe how sorry I am for your loss at this most difficult of times. When it comes to Derek, I can only tell you what you already know, which is that Derek, was out on his own, he was a unique and genuine person who put his own stamp on being one of the great characters of our time ,Everybody looked forward to seeing him around the village. But for me personally, I took great comfort in seeing the dad he was to Nicola, the bond they had, the giggles they'd shared, and famous stories he would tell, as only fathers and daughters do. I could relate to that bond and it warmed my heart to see it. I prayed to my own dad recently to look out for Derek on his arrival, and thinking of that makes me smile, imagining 2 great story tellers up there sharing their treasure trove of tales and jokes, I especially asked dad to get Derek to share his infamous millie the moth riddle, thinking of it, I can almost hear them laughing, Sending all my love and comfort to you all, Jane and family xxxx
