Derek MacHugh

I spent a wonderful time in Ireland 1977-78 setting up the DECsystem20 Computer Centre at University College Galway. Also worked with Derek on sales at Irish Met Office and UCD. Could write a book about great memories with Derek. Condolences to his family.

I have good memories of meeting Derek and Zanka in Park House during my time in DECUS (Digital Equipment Computer User Society).

Derek changed my life the day he foolishly gave me my first job. I loved working in Digital and I loved working for Derek. He was hugely ambitious and drove his team of merry men to great heights. He alway managed to do this and yet retain a great sense of humour and enjoyment throughout.
He will always be remembered with great affection by his former colleagues.

Fond memories of Derek & his colleagues in DEC during my IT consulting days. Our paths first crossed during the Riomhaire Teo adventure after which he went on to a highly successful career in Digital. A gentleman & straight dealer who will be missed. Condolences with all his family- I remember the lads as kids on their bikes in Cabinteely.

I shall always appreciate Derek's wise advice after I lost my darling wife Mairéad to cancer, just like he had lost his beloved Zanka. He told me that the only way to handle it is to continue to focus on and remember all the good times you had together. Now that he too has sadly lost his own awful struggle, I hope his advice to me can now also bring some similar comfort to his family.
I and many others fondly remember all the good times we had as Derek's and Zanka's colleagues in DEC. May they both rest in peace.

My sympathy to Derek's family and friends. He was the key figure in my career and a dear friend till the end. A professional, a kind hearted man, and a great leader. He was always there for me, in business and in life.

So sorry for your loss, specifically to David, Michael and extended family. Had lovely meals and memories with Derek, Zanka, Dave and Michael. I am very sorry, but I am unable to attend Derek's passing, and I was unaware of Zanka's passing. I hope in time this grief will change.

Very sorry to learn of Derek’s passing. We started out together in the early 60’s at ICL on Adelaide Road & soldiered together on Government & Local Authority projects. Will always be grateful to Derek for his steadfast support during the setting up & early formative years of Online. He went on to preside over more than two decades of remarkable sales success for DEC in the Irish market. Our condolences to all the family. May he Rest in Peace.

He was MD of Digital Dublin in late 70’s when I moved my work from Galway to Dublin. He lead the Dublin team during the best of Digital days, and did it well.
