Dear Barbara and the boys I’m so sorry for your loss so young. I’m sorry I didn’t make Derek’s funeral I really regret not being there. Hopefully we will meet soon and catch up. I was lucky to meet Derek in full health and great form on two Kelly gatherings. It was so good to connect with you in Lahinch after so long Barbara. I hope you will be ok. God bless you all.

Derek was my next door neighbour and we grew up together and we had great times playing football on the green outside our houses and then went on to play for Ravens with father Michael shields. Derek was a great footballer. We made our communions and confirmations together and lot of other good occasions together I have great memories of times spent with Derek and he was just a genuine good soul and a great bloke who will be sorely missed. Derek had fantastic parents Michael and Rita who will greet him on his arrival. Rest easy Derek . You’re old neighbours the O Leary family and your old buddy Briano

Del was one of the first people we met when we moved to Callan in 2006. Himself and John bonded over their mutual love of food and The Dubs! We shared many laughs together and the ups and downs of life. He was a true friend, when we had a car accident in Carlow, he was the first person we called & he came to our rescue. He loved his family and his boys so very much.

Nathan and Lewis we are so very sorry that you have lost your Dad and that you didn’t get longer with him. He was so proud of you both. Del is a true gentleman, who was loved by many. Our sincere condolences to Barbara and Derek’s family and good friends who will miss him in their lives. Sleep well our dear friend Del. And thank you for everything. Xx

He was everything you could say about a young fellah progressing through youth. A Messer and great fun. Derek was very well-liked and grew into a gentleman. Proud to have known you, Derek.
