I was shocked and saddened to hear that Derek had crossed the bar. I have many happy memories of Derek from when we served together in Number 2 Company of An Slua Muirí. I was glad to renew our friendship in recent years when I joined the Naval Association. My condolences to Mary, Conor and Niamh on their sad loss.

Sincere condolences to the O'Rourke family on the very sad and unexpected passing of Derek. We were only chatting last Tuesday week 3rd March in the DMYC boatyard. The weather was perfect and Derek was in top form and cheerful as always. He will be greatly missed by all in the Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club. Raphael Heron, DMYC member and ex An Slua Muiri , No.2 Coy (early '70's).

A good number of our branch members served with Derek and he was a true character, friend and an excellent Nco always looked out for his junior's in his Unit.
