Dear Jane and Laoisa,
So very sad to hear of your Dad’s passing. I stayed with you guys for a few nights back in 1980. I spent a lot of time listening to your Dad’s stories then, again at Owen’s wedding in 2001, and again in Ireland in 2012. BOTH of my parents were so fond of him. He was a part of my Dad’s wedding party and he and my mom shared a very special friendship as well. Your mom was so very kind to us when we visited and I know it brings you great comfort knowing they are reunited in Heaven! I know your lives will never be the same without him, but the memories of his BIGGER than life character will never leave you! Hope you can feel the love from America ☘️. BTW, my kids (who are now adults) were convinced by him that he was a CERTIFIED and LEGIT leprechaun!
Dear Jane and Laoisa,
I was very sorry to hear from Owen O'Neill that your father has passed away. Please accept my sincerest condolences.
I only met your father once and that was at Owen's and Darlene's wedding. At the time I was struck by his natural wit and humour, entertaining the guests.
I am the eldest daughter of John O'Neill, Hubert's eldest brother. Growing up in Loughton, Essex, UK, I do remember visits from his brother Barry. There was some distant story of the whereabouts of soda syphons in Limerick. Uncle Eric knew the story.
May Derek rest in peace. Orla O'Neill (Kashishian), Madrid, Spain.
Jane and Laoisa-

Jana and I were very sorry to hear about Derek. My memories of him and your mom start when I was about 9 years old- some 40 years ago. I can tell you both that I always and thoroughly enjoyed him, and we are incredibly grateful that he made the trip for our wedding-blizzard and all. I really enjoyed the banter between him and Hubert.

I am sorry that I will not see him again- I will never forget him. You are all in our thoughts. Take care, Shane and Jana
Dear Jane and Laoisa: I was very saddened to learn this morning that your beautiful father, Derek, has passed away on Sunday. On behalf of my entire family, including my late parents, Hubert and Joan, I want to extend our sincere condolences on the loss of this very special guy—someone who will always be remembered with smiles and laughter in the O’Neill family. It was a privilege and joy to be in your Dad’s company—and we O’Neills will cherish those happy times. I hope that your Dad’s wit and charm will sustain you at this sad time. We can all take comfort in knowing that Derek is now up in Heaven with his beloved Pat, and that they are both enjoying a little gin and tonic and smiling down on their beloved daughters, Jane and Laoisa. God bless you, Derek—and thanks for making this world a warmer and friendlier place. You’ll remain in the hearts of all of the O’Neills until we see you again, my friend. Love, Owen
