We met Derek and Ethel many times in Brian's and Bobs' house during our visits home. He was a gentle giant of a man, lively, funny and always wearing a constant smile with a roar of laughter alongside it.

He was a joint of a man, will always remember our first encounter, in Barrett’s pub, with his good wife, Brian and family, he could not have done a bank robbery, as you would recognise him so clearly, from your first encounter. What a Dublin, and Irish soccer supporter, he and Ethel, traveled to so many places to support the Irish soccer team. He loved life, the pints, the music, the crack, but his family were the closest, and dearest to him, and for all of you right now, that giant, you all loved so much is gone to his eternal rewards.

Derek rip.I first met Derek in the Art gallery in Parnell sq.Installing the lift shaft lights as his apprentice about 83/84 I enjoyed every minute working with him .
