RIP Dermot, bed of Heaven to you. 1981 you were the first man to greet me at the gates of Guinness and I still remember your enthusiasm it telling me about the changes the brewer was about to go through. For the next 10 years we remained friends and I admired your outlook on life. Sleep well my old friend.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dermod last year, and little did I know on our first meeting what an impression he would make, Dermod regaled me with stories of his past adventures and even brought me in a scrap book of all his shows he read me poetry and even gave my son tips on how to run a successful marathon. As we celebrate Blooms Day he will be remembered and missed.
I became friendly with Dermod a little over a year ago while working at Hodges Figgis, thanks to his fervor and curiosity for rare books which we would track down together. I gained a fleeting friend through Dermod, a genuinely kind-hearted, cheerful, and thoughtful person - features of his so evident that they have made a lasting impression, even in the short time I knew him. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing, and my sincerest condolences go to his close friends and family, who I'm sure will miss him extraordinarily.
You’ll be sadly missed this Bloomsday and many more. Thank you for adding to life’s merriment.
We were so very sorry when we heard that Dermod had died and we extend our sincere sympathies to the Lynskey family.

Dermod was a lovely, kind and gentle man who we knew for about 55 years, back to the days when a group of us regularly headed off for a mountain run around Killakee and the Pine Forrest.

But as well as being an athlete, Dermod was innovative and created a road race called the Wooden Cup, which ran from Arran Quay Church, through the Phoenix Park and finished on the South Quays at a boxing club on Ushers Island. A night time race, the week before Christmas, it was pitch black for most of the way but very competitive. The prizes were all made of wood, hence the Wooden Cup, a beautiful polished chalice-like trophy produced by the wood turners (cask makers) in the Guinness Brewery. The trophy was on display in the Donore Harriers club house at one stage. The prize for the first master was a Wooden Crutch and a Wooden Drop (i.e. wouldn't drop!) awaited the last placer. A unique event instigated by a truly unique person.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
My condolences to the Lynskey family on their sad loss. I lived quite close to Dermod and though not a close friend, I met him many times. When he heard that my son and I had moved house, he very kindly called round to see us and wish us well in our new home. I can remember him well in the St Patrick's Day parade and on Bloomsday. Dermod was a talented actor and a really nice man. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé

Alas, a truly talented thespian has passed. I first met Dermod over 70 years ago when he was performing sketches in Drimnagh with my brother Jim and Nancy Whelan (RIP). His record of performances in the years since leave us with nothing but a feeling of warmth and admiration. A loss to the history of Dublin theatre and “the rare oul times”. May he rest in peace!
Thinking of all of Dermods loved ones. Some of my happiest childhood memories are of looking forward to Dermods visit every Christmas morning. Dermod you were such a kind gentleman & I’ll remember you fondly. Thanks for all your kindness Elaine( Liams daughter )& Liam Mullen( ex Guinness colleague)

To John and all the Lynskey family, condolences on Dermod’s sad passing. He was a kind , respected and friendly neighbour to us all on Ardagh Road. Dermod would always stop our game of football on the road and ask us “how were things and if we were all ok “ . When we told him one day that we were entering the Parish Road Leagues Dermods response was to very kindly sponsor in full our new kit . We didn’t win but looked the part ! Dermod’s passing is another loss on Ardagh Road.
Sleep easy Mr Dermod Lynskey

I met Dermod in 1985 when he called into me in Fade St Dublin 2 and since then we have been great friends. He has been a great support to my business over the many years, when he would arrive in to buy presents for his large number of friends and people he met in his travels around the world.

Dermod would always have a few very funny stories to tell me and we always had a great laugh and he could keep you entertained all night if you were lucky enough to be in his company.
I am very sorry to hear of his sudden passing and may I extend my sincere condolences to all his family and friends. He will be very sadly missed. May Dermod rest in peace.

So very sad to hear of Dermod's untimely death. He was a most kindly and thoughful man. I first met him at the Bohemians well over 20 years ago ,and always enjoyed his company. A man of immense talent and performing class,Dermod added much sparkle and gaiety to the Bohemian concert evenings over many years...be it Joyce, recitations or comedy....and no one had ever heard any of his jokes before !! I enjoyed many great chats with Dermod, especially about professional comedy and of course athletics and Donore Harriers. It was nice to have known him. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Saddened to hear of Dermod’s passing. He was a true gentleman as well as a fine actor, raconteur and performer. I shall miss his James Joyce persona. I was privileged to see one of his last performances at the Bohemians. May he rest in peace.
Deepest condolences to Dermod's Family and Friends on his sudden passing.
I was thinking back on our friendship and recalled giving him a hand along with Danny Byrne(RIP) in building the set for "Juno and the Paycock" for the Guinness Players. Dermod was looking for faded curtains to complete the stage and we went to the Iveagh Market to see if he could get a suitable pair. That turned out to be a star performance with the Old Shawlies. Just one of my very happy memories with him.

Good bye " Old Blue Eyes"

Tom

Sad news. My condolences to Dermods family & extended family & wide circle of friends.

Dermod was a very witty, funny & knowledgeable man. Dermod shared many stories with his colleagues over a coffee when we worked in '98' James's street. It was through him that I learned so much about the Joycian era and came to love theatre and garner an interest in the arts.

Fondly remembered & never forgotten. So many legacies left behind. May Dermod rest in peace 🙏
Sad to hear of the passing of Dermod. Privileged to have met Dermod when he played Finian in Finians rainbow with AIB Musical Society in the late 1980s. It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Dermod. We worked together in the Engineer’s Dept. and later we were in the Guinness Players Drama Society where Dermod’s huge acting talent shone very bright indeed However for me his portrayal of Charlie Chaplain always lifted my heart. Dermod a life well lived. Gone from us now but never forgotten. May your gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
Totally shocked and saddened by the news of Dermod's passing, he was a lifetime companion and friend to our Aunty Shiela, he was one of life's true gentlmen, nothing was to much for Dermod as we were growing up as kids whether it was a trip to McDonalds (it was a novelty back then ), a trip to the cinema or a trip to the amusements in Bray. He took it all in his stride and if you were ever in trouble he would be there in a minutes notice. He will be sadly missed
