Derry was an absolute gentleman in all the years I knew him, he also had a great sense of humour and was so unassuming and modest in his manner. As a member of Lough Ree Yacht Club he did amazing voluntary work, very efficiently and quietly, never any fuss, just always great results. He restarted the Annual Lough Corrib Regatta which still runs today and he managed to get some sponsorship from Guinness at the time to present a perpetual trophy which is still raced for ever since, normally from Lisloughrey, near Cong and old property of the Guinness family. It feels like the end of an era! I was vert sorry to hear about Derry’s passing. My thoughts are with Margaret, Siobhan, Colin, Ashling and Robin. I have fond memories of Derry in Athlone and then also when he bought the flat in Midleton, many passing visits. My Dad and Dan will be waiting at the doors for you Derry and Im sure there will be a celebration…the 3 brothers back together again!
