Wonderful memories of a magnificent man and master piper. For at least 12 years Dermot accompanied our youth rugby teams to an International Tournament in Rovigo, Italy. To say that he was the star of the show would be underestimating the impact that he had. He played our Irish team on to the pitch for each game and whilst our lads felt the hair on their heads rising,ur the opposition were in absolute awe giving us a distinct advantage!!
He also led the bride and groom into the Church in Ruby, Barcelona, on the occasion of our son's wedding. The Catalans (including the bride's family) were mightily impressed and assumed that our family must be Irish Chieftains what with our very own piper.
On all occasions Dermot insisted on paying his own expenses, including travel, board and sundries.
No more generous friend have I and the craic was mighty indeed. I can picture him now, in full piper regalia,entertaining the heavenly hosts...followed by a pint (or two) of plain with our mutual comrade Captain Paddy Butler.
Sincere condolences to Eileen and the extended family. You must be very proud indeed of your husband, father and grandfather.

I have so many memories of Uncle Dermot when I was a kid - he was the elder bagpiper in the family, I took much inspiration from tales of Carnegie Hall and entertaining travels around the world. Every family get together had laughs, jokes and music. There are doubtless very many more and I sincerely hope that they will help you fill the gap in his loss. May he rest in peace.
