So sorry to have learnt the passing of an old friend. My sympathies are with Helen and family. I will always remember him and the good times we had growing up on The Rise.

I first remember meeting Dermot (Mr McCarty at the time !) at the grand old age of 13, long long time ago, when he arrived home not only with a McDonalds for his kids but their friends too, it was my first ever strawberry milkshake and I thought they had the best dad EVER ! I have been welcomed to the house ever since and always with a genuine greeting. I know how dearly Dermot was loved and the sorrow the whole family is feeling and pray that God gives you the strength to carry on and know you will keep him in your heart forever. Rest in Peace Dermot. They might just be holding a jazz session in heaven in your honour.

Dearest Helen. How very sad I was to hear of Demot's passing. I will never forget his great kindness and generosity towards me when I first met him in Cork in 1980. I had become ill and was sent to hospital during the Cork Jazz Festival. I was feeling low and he without hesitation, organised one of the bands and all my friends to come and play jazz at my bedside! He was a great family man and I'm sure you will miss him terribly. His sense of humour was terrific, his generosity was boundless! The list is endless! I know he will watch over you and all his family from the Great Jazz Club in the sky!

Our heartfelt condolences go to you and all the family on the sad loss of a wonderful man. We first met Dermot down in Cork for the 1980 Jazz Festival and his first act was to ask if there was anything he could do to help one of our party who had become ill. Over the weekend you and he visited John who had been hospitalised and we became part of the McCarthy family. Dermot was a perfect mixture of Irish charm. Gregarious, humorous and kindness personified and the perfect mate for everyone. Over the years we had holidays and happy family occasions together and we will all miss him greatly.

Dearest Helen and Family, my deepest condolences, Dermot was one true Gentleman and a very good friend, he lived an interesting and good life, may he RIP,

i was so sorry to hear of Dermots passing
He was such a lovely man
He was a great friend & neighbour of Mum & Dads & they had a great friendship
I can remember many happy fun nights when Helen & Dermot & indeed lots of other neighbours came to our house
Dermot in later years showed great grit in dealing with the challenges he faced
I often stopped to chat to him as he bravely walked up & down the Rise
He will be sadly missed by us all
