Dear Joan, Una, Jane, Suzie, Deirdre and Derry, I'm so very sorry to read of Dermot's passing, may he rest in peace. A gentleman, I've so many fond memories from all of your summers in Collinamuck and then in more recent years with the late Charles Lynch and the Galway Enterprise Board as it was then. We made a great connection and he was always very supportive of me and I was very grateful for that and to renew the connection with him. Himself and Charles are in heaven having great chats now. I was saddened to hear of the death of Dermot whom I intended visiting for a long time after I returned to Galway but never got to see him. He was such an inspiration to me and so many others in the Order of Malta when it was based in Dominick Street. Deepest sympathy to his wife and family and may he rest in eternal peace. Our sincere condolences to Joan and all Dermot's family. Growing up in our house Dermot was a hugely important figure. My Dad, Peter Walsh, worked for McLaughlins Frozen Foods for years covering areas from Athlone to Connemara. Dermot was more than just a boss to Dad, he was a true friend and was held in the highest esteem. Many the story we heard of their exploits on the road and beyond.
Dermot was a gent and was always up for the bit of fun - hence the friendship between them. When Dad set up the shop business in Baunmore, Dermot often was consulted for advice. He will never be forgotten.
Dad passed away in January and now there will be some chat in heaven when the two lads meet again!
May Dermot rest in eternal peace.

For many years he served on the Board of Management of St Pat's Patrician primary school and in that capacity he was greatly supportive of the staff, the whole school community and to me personally. The school progressed hugely due to his imput, dedication and committment.
A kind, witty, generous and fun loving human being, always with a twinkle in his eye, he will live long in our memory.

I first met Dermot during the Bish Musical in 1978 when he and Jimmy Keenan were doing the lighting. From then to now Dermot was a mentor, friend, confidant, listener, fixer, to me and many others. As we reflect on the passing of Dermot, we remember a true gentleman—always willing to help, always generous with his time, and always ready to go out of his way for others.

I recall once being completely puzzled by how a two-way switch worked on a domestic lighting circuit. I must have been only in first or second year in school, but Dermot took the time to draw out a full sketch and explain the whole thing to me with such patience and clarity.

That was who he was: a lovely, kind-hearted man who was always there for anyone who needed him. He will be greatly missed.
