We have wonderful memories of great lunches and social gatherings with Dermot - a wonderful storyteller, brilliant recall and that amazing voice. We will cherish the time we spent in his company. May the many happy memories help you through this difficult time.

What a lovely warm and engaging person Dermot was, I only have good memories of our too few encounters.

Kay, so sorry for your loss. Dermot was a great colleague in The Irish Times. He was a helpful and very knowledgeable friend and a pleasure to listen to when he later reported for RTE. I remember the hospitality of he and his then wife, my late colleague Christina Murphy, when they entertained in their Ranelagh home. It was always a pleasure to meet him socially over the years. He was a superb journalist and great company. One of the really 'good guys' , and in death such a loss of a fine human being. What a voice Dermot Mullane possessed – velvety, yet authoritative. One of the great voices of Irish broadcasting belied the teak-tough journalist behind the microphone and in front of the camera.
He was engaging company, peppering conversation with witty and erudite anecdotes, underpinned by a wealth of knowledge.
We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Kay, Eric, Deirdre, Sheenagh, Orla, and his adored grandchildren, Alexander, Hugo and Christina, on the death of Dermot.

I liked Dermot before I met him from the rich timbre of his voice on the radio. When we subsequently met socially and on holidays I came to appreciate Dermot’s other great qualities including his wry sense of humour. Kay you have lost a great man -my sincere condolences.
