I was very sorry to hear the sad news of Derry's death and send my sincerest condolences to you both and to the other members of the extended Hussey family. Derry was a wonderful and inspirational man whom I always held in the highest esteem. It is rare to be able to say about somebody "We shall not see his like again" but it is so true about Derry. May he rest in peace.

Both Derval and I were so sad to learn of Derry's death and we pass on our wholehearted condolences to you, Rachel, Ruth, Andrew, your beloved grandchildren and also to Brian, John and Barbara.
Rarely do people with such extraordinarily rational minds care as much he did, but he did. He was so good to Garret and so effective in helping bring Fine Gael into the 20th century at a critical juncture in our nation’s history.
On a personal level his wise advise and support to me in my own career and to us a couple is something we will always treasure.
He was one immense rounded human being and together you both helped to serve and modernise Ireland. We had the privilege of watching the funeral service which was such a loving tribute to a truly good man.

May he rest in peace.

On behalf of all Derry's friends in St. Mary's College RFC, I would like to offer the Hussey family our sincere condolences on his passing. Derry will always be remembered in the club as a member of the Mary's 1957-58 Leinster Senior Cup winning team. This was the first major trophy won by the club with Derry on one wing and his twin Brian on the other. In particular, we offer our condolences to Derry's brother John. A stalwart of the club, John is a past president of Mary's as well as past president of Leinster and the Irish Rugby Football Union. May Derry rest in peace.

We were deeply sorry to learn of Derry's death, just before Christmas.

Dear Gemma,
I was very sorry to learn of Derry’s death. Although we have not met in the last few years my memories of him are all very pleasant. As you may know he and Brian were my first friends at the age of about 4 having lived next door on Rathfarnham Rd.. Subsequently we shared some interesting times playing cards and chess and some spectacular walks and I always enjoyed his company.

I was always amazed that someone like Derry even allowed someone like me into the house! Such an unflappable, unruffled, unperturbed gentleman. Incredibly kind to waifs and strays. My sincere condolences to Gemma, Rachel, Ruth and Andrew.

Dearest Ruth, Rachel, Andrew and Gemma – I have such fond memories of Derry. How he so graciously put up with my constant presence in your house where I did half my growing up. Not to mention how his presence somehow triggered uncontrollable giggles for Suzanne and I which I now suspect was related more to how handsome he was than any particular effort on his part to be funny! Luckily his charm and kind-heartedness is perpetuated in you three children. I recognize his shy mischievous smile in Andrew, his extreme kindness in Ruth and his curiosity and thoroughness in Rachel. My deepest sympathy to you all.
