Derry (Jeremiah Patrick) Lane

I knew Derry in London where we met back in the 1980s, and after my wife and I came to live in Kerry I used to drop in on him whenever I was in Cork. I saw him only a few weeks before he died. I heard of his death when I called by to see him and a decorator at his home gave me the sad news. I miss him greatly, he was a true gentleman and a lovely friend.

Enjoyed chats with Derry when he came over to Bantry market regularly on Fridays.Another fine Bantry man gone ,but not forgotten.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Derry . A lovely man and we had some laughs in Healy’s Bar , may he rest in peace .

We shared a classroom for two years in post primary school and my abiding memory of him is that of a pleasant and cheerful person who could brighten up a room as soon as he entered. Many years later we met again briefly on a couple of occasions in Ballincollig. He had not changed. Derry's presence made the world a more bearable place for many.
