Very sorry to hear recently about Derry’s sad passing. He was a gentleman and a most helpful and supportive colleague in Bank of Ireland. Sincere sympathy to his Family.

To Julie and family - I was so sorry to hear of Derrys passing. I first met him the day I joined the bank when he gave my training course and our paths crossed many times over the years. In particular, I spent my last 10 years working closely with Derry who very generously shared his skills and knowledge with me.
A real gent who was a pleasure to know and work with.

My sincere sympathy to Derry’s family.

At the start of my career, I was in the M.Sc. programme in DCU with Derry. He marked himself out as a true gent through the warmth and generosity he showed his classmates, especially the way he shared his time and experience with us younger members of the class.

Lifts back southside were particularly appreciated by those of us who didn’t have cars, during which there were many lively discussions that were as entertaining as they were animated. Good company on long journeys through rush hour traffic – which were never dull and always enjoyable.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Sincere condolences to the O'Neill family. Derry was in my MSc class at DCU. A number of us were fresh out of college or had just started working while Derry had years of experience behind him. He was always willing to share his experiences with us and we learned a lot from him. He also served as our unofficial taxi driver as none of us had cars and he would regularly drop us home rather than having us take the bus across the city!! His legacy as someone who cared deeply about other people will live on.

My condolences to Julie and family and wider O'Neill family. I was lucky enough to know Derry growing up in Ardee and again as a work colleague in BOI. Both times he was a genius but also a generous engaging gentleman and great company. May he rest in peace.
