Graham and myself spent a lovely 2 weeks with Des and Imelda in Nerja as well spending many happy times in their home on Beaumont. They were such happy joyous people who will be so sorely missed by their lovely family and many many friends.

A grand senior citizen of Ireland who loved his family and they loved him. Though predeceased by his wife Imelda, we should note that as he passed from this Earth, Tropical Storm Imelda was tearing up the North Atlantic to let everyone hear the news that Desmond had left us to rejoin his wife Imelda.
In his last years Desmond made several trips to Maine to stay with his daughter Louise and his namesake grandson Desmond, accompanied on the last trip by daughters Gillian and Zoe. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, and has set a fine example of a life "well lived" God Bless his family.

To say ‘We’ll never forget you’ is completely redundant in the case of the unforgettable Des Gartland. His ability to tell a well crafted joke with a twinkle in his eye, his gift for storytelling and holding the attention of an entire room, his joyful, multifaceted gift as a yodeling, spoon playing, sand car making Entertainer.. are all truly irreplaceable.
We are so lucky for having known you Granddad Des, and now all carry the burden of trying in vain to tell those who didn’t just what they missed out on.
