Our sincere sympathy to all the family on the death of Des. We only heard this morning of Des's passing ( 5th July ) . It was a great shock to us as Des was always a very amiable person, someone who took his work very seriously and was always willing to take up our issues as a local councilor and worked hard to get our issues resolved. He will be truly missed.

He was alone in opposition at the council meetings which was not a welcoming place for him. He was a great independent councillor. He rattled their cage. May he rest in the peace of Heaven.

I was both shocked and saddened to hear of Des's passing.
My deepest condolences to his daughter Irene and all the family at his passing.
I had the great pleasure and honour of meeting up with Des in Rooskey back in 2017 and he assisted me in planning the erection of a commemorative plaque on the bridge in memory of my Mother Bridie Clyne.
I will always remember his kindness and professional advice and hold the memory of the day he unveiled same a year later as a very special one.
His knowledge of local history was immense and he loved Leitrim.
May he now rest in peace in Heaven along with his late wife Myra and brothers.
