So hard to find the correct words to describe what Des meant to us all. He was one of the original pillars of our small community and the heartbeat of our GAA club. His foresight and passion to build, develop and create a GAA club back in 1964 in the fledgling new housing estate that was Edenmore gave so many children the opportunity to play and enjoy Gaelic games. Those who became players, mentors and members of St Monica’s GAA club formed close bonds and friendships that have stood the test of time. Des was at the top table, the glue that kept us together and steered us in the right direction in good times and in not so good. His passion for St Monica’s was there for all to see. Des was a dear friend to our late Father, Terry Monahan persuading Dad to join the club when our family moved to Edenmore from Ballybough in the late ‘60’s, the rest as they say is history. We can only imagine the heavenly conversations and laughs them pair will be having in the coming days.

Rest in peace Dear Des, xxx

My sincere condolences to the O'Neill family. Dessie as we knew him in ESB was a good and loyal colleague and in my experience a thorough gentleman. He is retired a good number of years but he always remained in touch through the Social Club and the Benevolent Association where he seldom missed an outing or the Christmas Dinner Dance. He was a great man years ago at selling tickets for St Monicas weekly raffle and fair play to him he got the odd winner for us too.
Rest In Peace Dessie.
