I had the pleasure of working for Laing O’Rourke from 2007 to 2016 and worked on many wonderful projects.
Des frequented one project I worked at on a regular basis, the concrete manufacturing facility, Explore park in Worksop.
I was a young planner on the project for CHt, and Des was always challenging the project timeline whenever he was on site.

He was always hard, but fair.
He always treated me with respect, a high degree of professionalism and gave me sound advice about the importance of clarity, honesty and standing your ground when you know you’re right. “Focus on the issue - not the individual”
Sound advice from a titan of construction.

Thanks for helping out a young Mancunian planner who had no idea he was talking to the guy who helped found the business! (Well, no idea the first two or three times we met).
