Des Whelan

Very sorry to hear that Des has passed away, we were neighbours and I used to babysit for him. In adulthood I went to his pub. He had a wonderful voice. My sincere condolence to his family.

While I have many fond memories of outstanding performances by Des in a variety of musical roles, one of the most enjoyable was at Wygram Nursing Home pre-Covit 19 where, along with another great Wexford talent, Ger Busher, he entertained the patients on a regular basis. Their singing and antics brightened up the lives of patients, staff and visitors alike! A gifted singer and all-round showman, I always looked forward to travelling down 'home' from Waterford to see him on the stage of the Opera House, knowing full well that the professionalism of Des would bring out the very best in his fellow cast members. Sincere sympathy to Denise and family on his much regretted passing.
