Desmond (Des) Caren

Myself and Ann offer our condolences to the family of Des at this difficult time. I never met him but I heard lots of wonderful stories about him from Eamonn .

Dear Deirdre. Colm, Rory, Declan and Kevina,
My sincere condolences on the passing of your dear father, Des. When I last saw him in Woodbrook a few years ago, he defied his age and looked like someone a decade younger. He was always a lovely neighbour and my Dad often recalled how he slept in your house for a night or two just before our family moved into Eaton Brae. He remained helpful throughout our time in Shankill and with Des and Sheila gone, another chapter in our Eaton Brae has closed, but not forgotten.

Sincere condolences to all the Caren Family on the sad passing of Des. He was a remarkable man and very interesting to talk to. RIP Des.

Uncle Des was amazing man. Full of life, vitality, energy, spirit and charisma.

Rest in peace. You lived a full life.

Deepest sympathy to all the family on the death of Des. I worked in IPT in the 1960’s when we were a small group & Des was always eager to assist in helping people. We met at a funeral a number of years ago and reminisced on events of 50 years ago. May he Rest in Peace.

Des was in and out of our lives as part of the PJC Family for decades. I came to know him quite well after I left the Company and occasionally met up with him and Tom Stanley for a quiet pint. Des was a passionate family man, he adored Sheila and worshipped his kids and grandkids. His sharp mind, wit and no nonsense presentation of facts were always tempered with compassion and kindness. Des had the wonderful skill of ‘meeting people where they were’, rather than where he wanted them to be. This meant he engendered trust and for many of us he was a safe place to be at the important crossroads in our lives. His knowledge of history, current affairs , love of spoken Irish and sport was immense and beguiled anyone in his Company. It has been a great honour to spend a little time with him and although his passing is a great loss, I will always remember him with kindness and a smile.

To Deirdre and all his wonderful family I would like to extend the deepest condolences of the Eustace Family.

Very sad to hear that Des has died, deepest sympathy to the Caren family. As good friends of my parents, Des & Sheila were a very welcome part of our lives, often joining us for parties and family events over the years.
A real gentleman, we'll remember him very fondly.

A wonderful storyteller and a deeply intelligent man, he made a great success of his life and lifted the spirits of everybody around him. Much missed.

I was so very sorry to hear that Des has passed. What a delightfully positive and happy man and I am so glad I knew him. I have such happy memories of Des especially the wonderful St Stephens' nights parties each year. My sincere sympathy and condolences to all the family.

My deep condolences to Colm Rory and family of the passing of Des. The first time i met Des was when I was 15 years old he was dropping off his 2 sons in a jag at St Josephs college clonkeen rd and little did I know that he would be involved in my retirement 50 years on from PJC. A man that treated everyone as equal no matter what side of the tracks you came from. A lovely and gentle soul and May he RIP

Des was such a character, a once off . I remember him with affection not only for his kindness and help to Bernie and myself in the early years but also as a raconteur and convincing inveigler over many years of the post St. Stephen's day 'call' for a song , a ditty a 'recimetation ' in light payment for the incredible hospitality of Sheshe , himself and the conscripted, Deirdre, Colm,Rory Kevina and Declan. So saddened to hear this news. I've had the pleasure of knowing Des for over 50 years. And many's the debate and craic we've had, many involving a glass or three of Armagnac. A great with and raconteur. But his great gift was helping others. He helped and advised so many over the years. He is now with his lovely Sheila. May they both rest in peace.
