He and his team mates from the 1961 Dublin hurling team are an inspiration to the current generation of Dublin hurlers to “go all the way “ to All Ireland “ glory. Look on in peace Des!

My sincere condolances to Marie and the extended Ferguson Family on the passing of Des. I was honored to put on The St. Vincents and Dublin Jersies and walk on to the Hurling Pitch with Des . A man that inspired me and coached me during my playing days,and as a young child going down to Croke Park on the crossbar of my Fathers Bike to wactch Des and the other great players that put Dublin on the map of the Gaa. he was no doubt a Legend and arguably the greatest dual player in the history of the GAA. may Des Rest In Peace . Sincere condolences to all the Ferguson Family on the passing of Des. I had the pleasure of meeting and dealing with Des on a number of occasions over the years when getting his cars repaired. He was a true gentleman in every way, soft spoken and sincere. It’s nice to have met people like Des through ones life, where they leave a lasting impression, even some twenty plus years on! May he rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to the Ferguson family on the death of Des. Des was a wonderful hurler and footballer, a true sportsman and gentleman . He was my boyhood hero .I first encountered Des in 1958 when I sought his autograph . Des not only got me the autographs of all the greats of that era but presented me with an autograph book which I still cherish. I am the boy from the shop in Parnell Street who wrote a letter of thanks some 55 years later.

Sincere sympathies to his Family, relatives and friends on the death of Des. I remember Des in good times in Navan, and in not-so-good times elsewhere. No matter what his surroundings, Des was a consummate gentleman- an noble example of loyalty and decency to all others around him. He was fair-minded, thoughtful and always always his own man of principle, independent judgment and honourable behaviour. He never allowed difference in any facet of life to interfere with his fair dealing and friendship.

In conjunction with the late Stiofán Ó hAnnracháin, Des was invaluable in arranging Hurling-Shinty practice matches with Meath selections for our Club as host to the visiting Glascow Mid Argyle, Shinty Club, throughout the 1970-80s.
