Margaret, Des, Michelle, Maire and Paul, please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of your dear dad Des.
We have wonderful long-lasting memories of Uncle Des especially of his visits to Lumcloon and his and your mother Kaye’s welcome and hospitality afforded to us when we visited you all in Meadowgrove. His great generosity in coming to stay with Teresa allowed us to take our annual holiday without any worries. It wasn’t all rosaries however! - Uncle Des took her on many trips including to Aclare and Knock. No visit occurred without him bringing tins of dog food for Penny and taking her for long walks up the bog road. Uncle Des brightened the lives of all he met with his good humour and gregarious personality.
May God grant Des eternal rest and may all the lovely memories you have of him bring you comfort at this time. May he rest in peace.
We were both so sad on hearing of

the passing of Des
I remember the many times he visited us in Yellowmeadows with Granny Grandad Kay and his children
We had many happy times together and Des was always an extremely happy person and we had such laughs not forgetting his visits to Cuppanagh Cloonloo Sligo (his late wife Kay's) home place indeed it was a special place for him also Des junior Paul Margaret and Maura Michelle
You will be sadly missed Des
Our sympathies to Des Jnr Paul Margaret Maura and Michelle
May he rest in peace
Michael and Anne Dwyer
Des was my godfather and I couldn’t have asked for a better one.
He always had time for me, never forgot my birthday and was most interested in my life.
He was so kind and good to my late mother and they were such great friends.
I have lots of good memories of Des but here are three of my favourites:
- Mick and Anne’s Wedding in Ennis and the quick drive home on bad roads to our Local in Sligo where we all continued the Party
- The Ruby Wedding Anniversary Party for Des and my parents. It was very sad of course because Kay my godmother had passed away but at the same time provided a great opportunity for both families to celebrate our parents.
- Des’ 80th Birthday Dinner in the Shelbourne where he had spent many happy times during his working life. He regaled us all with marvellous stories and everyone had a wonderful evening. Des did not want the night to end, he had such energy for life.
Des had a lovely life and we all enjoyed his company, laughter and singing.
May he and Kay rest in peace, together again.
Margaret (Dwyer)
Dessie
We sadly miss your presence here in Meadow Grove. Thought of you today St Patrick’s day ... and our running joke about the flag flying on my chimney!
You would ask if the coast was clear ... great memories over 60 years
Love Bea
Des you are greatly missed- we always loved your company - such a kind, generous man with a great cheeky smile who always lit up a room - rest in peace Des xxx
Des, you made me laugh.
I shed some tears
It was a pleasure to be with you
You will always be near

Lots of Love Teresa. Rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to all the Gallagher family. Des was exceptionally joyful, and loved by many. I will remember him for his sharp wit, and exuberant laughter. I wish you all peace at this tough time.
Dear Margaret, Des, Michele, Maire, Paul and all the lovely grandchildren -
Our deepest sympathy, love and prayers to you all on the loss of your beloved Dad and Grandad. Dessie was my Uncle and a very special person who has brought lots of love and joy to our family and indeed to everyone fortunate enough to have known him. My late and much loved Auntie Kathleen was my Dad’s Sister and she and Des visited us in Oldham when Bridget and I were still in our early teens – so I have known him a few years! Their home in Churchtown was always open house to us and actually, to one and all. You could be sure of a lovely warm welcome, kindness, hospitality and lots of fun and laughter and often a song or two or three! We had some great times together. They were indeed ‘The Rare Ould Times’. We loved Dessie and we miss him.
May he Rest in Peace.
Dear Margaret and all the Gallagher family, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your dear Dad Des. He was such a lovely man, full of fun and always smiling. Whenever I met him he always greeted me with a big hug. He was a lovely singer and I will always remember him singing Noreen Bawn in the Glenside last March. He will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace.
Dear Gally Cousins, we are sending you our love and prayers as you grieve the massive loss of your amazing Dad, what a wonderful Uncle and fantastic friend he has always been to us, how blessed we were to share so many very happy fun-filled times. The welcome and hospitality we were always so generously given by both Auntie Kathleen and Des was second to none, simply unforgettable, we thought the world of them both. We were honoured to be part of Des’s extended family. God bless you Des and all your family always. Lots of love Caroline, Phil, Caoimhe, Orla & Finnian.
Sincere condolences to all 'The Gallies' at this sad time. Dessie, my Godfather, was quite simply one of my favourite people that I ever had the pleasure to meet. I have so many wonderful memories of the happy times we shared down the years. A game of golf, a few pints, great craic and often a few songs to round it off. He was such a great character and every time we were together we laughed. What a gift he had and he loved to share it. We will of course miss him dearly but will never forget him and will always tell our stories of him with warmth and a smile! RIP Des

Our deepest sympathy to Des Junior and all the Gallagher family on your dad's death.
Des played with our Muredach's golf society for many years -hosted us once in Dublin Mountain Club - and was the spark that lit up every social occasion.
I remember him parring the 18th on the difficult Monty course in Carton one wild day when no one else managed to do so.
His life is one to be celebrated.

Des

This wee Diddly from over the sea
came to visit the family full of laughter and glee
Out for a walk and a pint in the pub
Then back home to Shelly’s to fill up with grub
With a tune on his lips and a grin on his face
He’d take to the dance floor and set a good pace

Often seen on the golf course for a round or two
Then c’mon to the pub..... just me and you!
Great lover of the rugby, on the side line he’d be
To watch all the kids play and of course....help celebrate too
The stories he told, the jokes they were plenty
When Des was around the place would never be empty

He’s moved on up there to join family and friends
Well you know that wee Diddly.....he could be a bit flighty!
We’ll miss you Des, we had an absolute ball
To meet such a gentleman and the craic.......... it was 90!

So beware you old friends, lest you forget, Des is on his way.........it could be a good night yet!
Margaret and the Gallagher family, deepest sympathy on the death of your dear Dad. May he rest in peace.

Michelle and family. I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't know your dad but I hear he was a character. Back in the 80's when I was teenager, myself and Trisha had a few (too many) sneaky bottles of Stag at Sarah's 21st I think it was. We needed to be brought home before mum found out. Who pulls up in the taxi only Des, much to Sarah's horror. But he got us home safe and sound and never said a word, fair play. RIP Des.
Dear Margaret, Maire, Des, and all the family.
Our heartfelt condolences on your beautiful dad's passing. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dessie. Father of my wife and in-laws father in law and good friend of mine for 25 years. Where do I start. Is it at dingle when we got in so much trouble with the family for playing an extra 9 holes and an extra few pints missing the arranged dinner. This was a normal occurrence. Was it going to the hardware store and trying to find some bits to splice the clutch cable on the Nissan for the 6 hr journey back to Dublin. Was it the fantastic laughs we had in England with all the friends you made and the golf days were so funny followed by the eve in the pub. The drive from Galway to tubbercurry. We new we were late but still managed to squeeze a game in on I think ballinrobe on the way. Why did you always get me in so much trouble?. I have received so many messages from my friends who became your friends recounting stories of fun we had. They specifically remember the exploding golf balls and the runaway golf trolley. The prize giving after followed by a good seshon in the pub. In short Des you made so many people so happy and will be sorely missed. Particularly by me. By the way. Don’t ever forget my near 186 yard hole in one the one when I putted for 2 and then you sank a 46 yard putt to halve it. You never let me hear the last of that. Quite rightly so. God rest and will miss my time with you dessie. Won’t mention the rugby. Xx❤️❤️
Des was the best grandad you could ever ask for! Always so kind and funny, and loved to give us some extra money for christmas without our parents knowing!
To Paul, Maire & all the Gallagher family, I’m so saddened to hear of your beloved Dad’s passing. He will be sorely missed by you all. He was such a great character, full of fun! He was happiest when you were all around him. I have such fond memories of him especially on our trip to Dingle! May he live on in your hearts (& your infectious Gallagher laughs). May he rest in peace.
