We are deeply saddened to hear of Dessie’s passing. Condolences to all his family.

I’ve known Des since I was a kid. He went on trips to the river Shannon with us, looked after me when we both lived in Sherrard Street and helped us to set up the venue on our wedding day.

Des was a selfless man. He enjoyed helping and working with others. About two years ago, he was minding the house and animals in Dawn View for Mark and Tina. I went down to make a planter out of some old pallets. On his own accord he came out to help me, which he didn’t have to do. I thoroughly enjoyed those few hours chatting, working and learning from Des. He was always very handy with things like that.

It’s a shame we couldn’t share a toast with him on his 70th birthday. When the timing is right, all his friends from his time at Kilmainham Motors will get together and celebrate his life over a pint as he would have liked us to do.

We would always say Des was a family friend, however, that doesn’t do him justice. Des was family to us.

So long Dessie. You will be missed.

Darren, Caroline and Luca Laird.
Condolences to all your family. St Patrick pray for you. RIP
