Sincere sympathy to Mary and the MacMahon family on the passing of Des. May he have eternal peace
Kathleen, Kevin and Meg, Isobel, Ella, Lucy, Clara, Des, Walter, Nicholas, Mema, Mark, Luke, Brian, Tom, Mary and Lucy my most sincere condolences on the loss of Des. A true gentleman who was so pleasant with a great knowledge on any topic. He was so proud of his family. Sadly missed but will always be very fondly remembered.
Our deepest condolences to Kevin, Kathleen and Meg. What a wonderful and kind man he was. I only fell out with him once in 14 years as his General Manager and that was a misunderstanding. I met him first in the Bahari Beach Hotel just outside Dar es Salaam. That was 1990. In 2002 I started working for him. I borrowed his Joyces Place names and he watched over the books like a librarian. We always had great political and history chats and debates, DeValera was heated ! Some investments raised his hackles as well. He was fair and learned and could teach some of the management in companies these days a few things about business. We will miss him and the Christmas dinners in The Wild Goose. We'll see you up there. Regards, Paul and Jean

My deepest sympathies to Kathleen, Kevin and Meg on the passing of your father
Kevin, Kathleen and all of the extended Macmahon family . We were so sorry to hear of your Dads
passing. Just a glance at the tributes shows that between you both you have inherited many of your Dads distinguished traits. Our condolences to you at this sad time .
I was so sorry to hear of this awful news. Des was a true Gentleman. My love and thoughts to the whole Mac Mahon family.
To Kathleen, Kevin and Meg, Isobel, and all the extended MacMahon family and friends. My deepest condolences on the ‘change’ which has occurred as Des passes from one form to another. If that next form is anything like what you have already known and enjoyed in his life, then he will be closer and truer to you than ever before. My own experience of Des was and still is of a human being unencumbered by baggage, truly himself and truly free. He has been a model and inspiration to me, and many, of how to live the ‘examined life’. What a privilege it was to have known him in recent years, I feel grateful for the providence of our meeting. That Helen Keller quote comes to mind: ‘What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us’. I hope you all continue to enjoy and experience the phenomenon that was Des. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Dear Kathleen, Kevin, Megan and wider families,
Your father was a treasure- I absolutely loved every dinner I had with your family, during my years at college. Such dapper, wisdom, intellect and humour provided such delight and I will always hold very fond memories of how he and your dearest Mum welcomed me into your beautiful home. Thank you Des for the awesome chats and wisdom shared.
May you rest in peace forever. E

Dear Kevin, Kathleen, Meg, Ella, Des, Walter & all the other grandchildren, dear Mema and the rest of the family, we are so sorry that the wonderful Des has left your lives. We'll miss bumping into him in Sandymount and Ballsbridge, and seeing him cycle majestically along the local roads, and will forever remember him as the most stylish and debonair protester ever at the US Embassy. They don't make many like him. RIP Des. Taly, Tom, Francis & Beth
Dear Kathleen, Kevin, Meg and all your families, I am so sad to hear of the loss of your beloved dad, father in law and grandad. I have very fond memories of him as a very kind and gentle man. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time.
So very sorry to see the passing of such a wonderful man. He truly lifted our spirits on the bleakest of days during the pandemic when we simply had to stop the car and chat to him outside the American Embassy. He brought a smile to our faces and made such a difference to one young person who took a (socially distanced) selfie with him and often still looks at it for inspiration and cheer when in need of motivation. . What a great guy! May he rest in peace.
Dear Kathleen, Kevin, Meg and families,
Your Dad and Valdi were the most wonderful of neighbours when we moved neaby to 2 Hepenstal Terrace in the Autumn of 1986. We spent a few marvellous years in Dublin and the fun and good times we enjoyed while in Sandymount are very much a tribute to Des and to you all as a quite special family.

Our hearfelt condolences, Colm, Martine, Nic, Guillaume and Niamh

Dear Kevin (Mema & Family),

I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. He left such an impression on me when we met. Clearly brimming with intelligence and humour, kindness and curiosity. He must be one of the very few who swam the Dardanelles at 75.

You must be very proud to call him your Dad. For always.
