My condolences to the Aylmer family. I also worked with Des in Chase and I fondly remember him as a kind and gentle man. Rest in peace Des.
I was so sorry to hear of Des’s recent death. I worked with him in Chase, in the same department, for a number of years. He was truly a lovely gentleman and great to work with.
He also very kindly dropped me to UCD on his way home on many occasions, once he heard I was doing an evening degree, even before I started working in his department. He would search me out before he left the office. I was always so grateful to him for those lifts & his thoughtfulness to get me to my lectures on time.
Sincere condolences to all of his family & friends.
Rest in Peace Des
I am sorry to hear of Des’s passing. He was a thorough gentleman.
May he rest in peace
Bernie
When I joined the bank in 1969 Des was in charge of the Ledger Room where he enjoyed the respect and affection of the many younger staff under his management.
In subsequent years in the same bank I worked directly with Des in a small 3-man team where we got to know each other very well.
Coincidentally, many years later, having changed employers several times, I ended up working with his son Jim and we had many chats about the gentleman that was Des Aylmer.
Rest in Peace Des
Only heard this morning when I bumped into Jim on the golf course…. I first met Des when I joined Chase and Bank of Ireland in 1971 and Des was my first boss … what a true gentleman in every sense of the word, he was so very kind to all of us particularly us young lads… my sincere condolences to Jim and all the family on Des’s death, may he rest in peace
