Sorry to hear of Desmond’s passing. Thoughts and prayers with the family at this time. May he Rest in Peace.
Only hearing of your loss Hilary and Philip.
I am so very sorry. My memory of Des at family gatherings (Taaffe & Holland) are those of entertaining stories and laughter. It was always a pleasure to meet him and I know my late mum Maureen had only the fondest memories of growing up with her cousin Des which she would regularly recall for us.
I am sure Des and mum will share those lovely times again on the other side now.

With Deepest Sympathy and Sadness on the passing of Des...thinking of you Hillary...🙏
It is with great sadness that l heard of the passing of my dear friend Des,
I send my deepest condolences to you Hilary, his wife ,Philip his son, Aideen his daughter in law, and all the grandchildren, and extended family,
I met Des in Dublin Silver when my friend and myself moved into the premises above his workshop to open our own Beauty Salon,
Both my friend Antoinette and myself were delighted with the premises and also the fact that when we were opened late on 2 nights a week, Des was a great back up, he looked out for us and made sure we were safe.
Tea and cake, biscuits and the chat were very welcome as Des came up to check we were ok.
Des was Dublin Silver, he was a very well respected gentleman, a brilliant brilliant craftsman, and would always go the extra mile for people,
He had many many friends not only around Dublin but all over Ireland,
We kept in touch over the years after the salon closed and often met for lunch and catch up on family ,life etc,
My daughter often met him when they were both en route to work,
He was a true gentleman, caring, gifted, very pleasant and loved the chat, he absolutely loved his grandkids, we spent ages talking about our grankids, and he loved his holidays abroad,
Des will be sadly missed, and all that is left for me to say is rest in peace my friend R.I.P.🙏.
Sending condolences Phillip to you your Mam, Aideen and Family on the loss of your wonderful Dad.. Thinking of you all at this heartbreaking time. May your Dad Rest in Peace ❤️

My sincere condolence to Hilary and Philip on the sad passing of Des.we all had happy times together. He was a real Gentleman.May Des rest in peace.
One of life's true gentleman, whose friendship I was lucky to have had during most of my adult life. Des trained me as a silversmith and despite leaving that career behind after a number of years and moving on to other pastures, he was there for me and my children throughout all the years that followed. He was loyal, kind, generous and a master craftsman who never let the light shine on himself which, having observed first hand his skillset and workmanship, he so greatly deserved. I was delighted that he received a Mayoral award from Louth County Council in 2024 for his restoration work on a 300 year old mace that was given to Drogheda Town after the Battle of the Boyne.

Outside of work, he loved annual sun holidays abroad with a group of friends from the UK and Ireland. His wife Hilary, family and grandchildren were a great source of pride for him and he loved nothing more than to tell me about his weekly visit on Sunday's for a family get-together.

I have no doubt that the Pearly Gates will be open for him as he sails in to greet all those loved ones who have gone before us however, if the Gates need a polish before he enters ... well there is no better Man.

I will miss you Des so much but I want thank you again for being in both mine and my family's life, we will especially miss the Smarties..
xx

Our sincerest condolences to Hilary, Philip and the Taaffe Family. So sorry to hear of Des's passing, he was a very good friend of my mother's and our family.

I got to know Des over the years and he was always very kind and a very positive man. He was very gifted at his trade and highly respected in his industry.

Aside from my mothers friendship, I used to meet Des occasionally on Kildare Street and Dawson Street in the mornings, when he would be on his way to his work on foot from Ballsbridge and I would be on foot on my way to my work in Baggot Street. We would have chats and you always walked away with a big smile on your face.
