To all the Hayden family we are so sorry for your great loss
Our deepest sympathy for the loss of Dessie, only heard the news today. I have the most fondest childhood memories of you all. Days on the meadow, the bog, milking cows, feeding chickens, kittens puppy's and turkeys.. These memory's I will cherish for ever, what a wonderful time it was. Thank you. Brendan
Deepest Sympathy Nicola to you and your family on the passing of your Dad,so sad to hear the news, sorry we are unable to attend the funeral, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. Bill/Josephine Hogan.
Our sincere condolences to Elizabeth and all the Hayden family.Unfortunately I am away and can't make the funeral but will be thinking of you all.
I just want to say a few words about what Dessie meant to my family growing up in Shroofe.
Apart from being a true gent and fantastic neighbour, we would always know that Christmas had really started when Dessie arrived with the Turkey that would be hung on a nail inside our back door for days before hand. The arrival of spring was always signalled when Dessie arrived with the first lettuce or head of cabbage (which is still my favourite vegetable).
You knew the nights were drawing in when he would arrive with the few bags of "good"turf for mum or it was often dropped off from the trailer on the way home from the island bog.
My more recent memories of him are, him standing at the top of our shop with the paper and the Irish Catholic rolled up under his arm and him laughing and joking with dad and anyone else that was lucky enough to be there.
I am so sorry for your loss but every time over the last few days that I think about Dessie I always end up with a smile on my face. R.I.P.
