Deepest condolences to the Hynes and Corkery families on the passing of Dessie. So sad to see Dessie go. He was special and unique and couldn’t be reproduced if you tried. He possessed all the lovely endearing qualities of humanity. He was a wonderful supporter of the Longford Association in Dublin and we were proud to honour him in 1991, and what memories we have of that occasion! Wherever Dessie was, excitement followed. I had the special pleasure of spending two hours in his company in Rosslare less than two years ago. To say the least it was an energising experience. He was then 93 and drove to Kelly’s hotel where we met. RIP, Dessie. You’ll be greatly missed by many for a long time into the future.

My condolences to all of Dessie’s family on their loss.
So many happy memories of a wonderful man.

I was lucky enough to receive many favours and life lessons from Dessie. One that comes to mind , after he went to a lot of trouble to do me a great favour. Afterwards when I said I owed him a favour in return, he laughed and said that isn’t the way a good world works instead you can go out and help somebody else and they in turn can do a favour for some other person ,and so on and so on, in that way goodness is spread throughout the world. Rather than you scratch my back and I scratch yours etc.
That was the measure of a gentle loving man. I will miss him greatly on visits to Rosslare.
— Stewart Kenny

I first met him in O Donoghue’s in 1977. He was so kind to me.
Ten years ago I visited him and Celine in Rosslare. What an experience! He drove me around and his many anecdotes were amazing.
I spoke to him on the phone last year and he said that he was still enjoying life although missing Celine.
A kind gentleman, a great storyteller, a dear friend in every sense.

My sincerest condolences to all the family . As a late entrant into the family , I was nervous going to meet the branch in Rosslare but I needn’t have worried. I was welcomed with open arms and in subsequent meetings with Dessie , his joking , his sharp one liners and his hilarious stories never failed to make me realise I was in the company of a “one of a kind “ . He was exactly the person you wanted in the group in a late night session’s banter in the kitchen . Rest in Peace , Dessie . The world is a quieter but richer place for having had you in it .

Deepest sympathy to Tom, Geraldine, Tony, Therese, Paul, Aideen, Winter, Kevin, and Nina on the passing of
your wonderful Dad Dessie Yesterday was a sad day in Rosslare.
I owe Dessie so much for his generosity , wise counsel and kindness to me - I was a big beneficiary as he funded my college social life in return for a few hours bar work each week and taught me a few lessons along the way.
Every conversation with Dessie was an event and would generally leave you wiser but would at the very least leave you with a smile
on your face. He was unique and unorthodox and a wonderful character who made a positive difference to very many lives.
RIP Dessie

Our deepest sympathy to Thomas, Geraldine, Tony, Therese, Paul, Aideen, Winter, Kevin, Nina on the death of your da.
I grew up with Dessie in and out of our house and shop in Lanesboro and his progression in life was always celebrated by my parents and family with whom he was best friends.
When you think of Dessie you think of kindness, fun loving and a very astute businessman whose business brain always had him ahead of everyone.
His impish smile always told that there was divilment in his mind - and there surely was.
I am sure you have heard many of the stories, he was legendary and to eternity unheard ones will continue to be told.
Dessie was so generous to me when I was living in O'Donoghue's and his kindness will never ever be forgotten.
Dessie will never ever be forgotten
— Joe & Martina O'Brien & family, Corner Shop, Lanesboro
My deepest sympathy to Kevin, Tony, and all the Hynes family on the sad passing of Dessie.
Although it is almost 30 years since Dessie gave me a job in Hynes in Baggot St, I always found him as a fair and caring employer. with some of the best stories and anecdotes on how to look after customers, a true businessman with a great common sense of how a business could succeed, and an ability to communicate. Things I took with me when I took over my family business.

I was honored that he once visited me on my premises in Lanesboro around 2001 and took on more advice. sadly I never got to see Dessie again or Kevin, who would be my Manager in Baggot Street. I had great memories working there and in Rathmines with Tony and Donal.

I regret that I never went to visit him, we could
have reminiscences about his old friends in Lanesboro and times in Dublin. Maybe got some more advice on life. Will always miss him.

May He Rest in Peace.
