Dessie Stirrat

To Jean, Una, Paul and Suzanne,

I was very sad to learn of the death of your dear Father, Dessie.
He was an amazing man, so popular with so many, with a tremendous sense of humor and the glass was always half full, even if was his favorite Harveys Bristol Cream. It was a privalege to have been invited to his 90th Birthday celebration in Killiney Golf Club in March, 2020 and more recently to join the Senate in Foxrock Golf Club for a drink (or two). He will be sadly missed and I will certainly miss him. May he rest in peace.

Paul, I was saddened to hear of Dessie death. As a Junior Senator, I always enjoyed his good humour and sense of fun. Condolences to all the Stirrat family. Due to a family bereavement, I will not be able to attend his funeral Mass. I will be sure to say one for him.

I wish to sympathise with all of Dessie’s family on his recent passing. Dessie was a legend in so many ways. He was greatly loved for his humour and his always positive attitude towards life. Rest in peace Dessie. Your fellow members of the “Senate” in Foxroxk GCwill greatly miss you . Enjoy watching all those westerns in the heavenly cinema!

His infectious laughter and positive can-do attitude made him a larger than life character. A generous man both in kind and spirit, he unconditionally dispensed nuggetts of wisdom on life and business alike. Dessie lived life to its fullest and his departure will be be sadly felt by those who knew and loved him. May his memory live long in our hearts however. RIP Dessie

Dessie was a great character, wonderful company and a close friend since the 1970s.
He maintained that life is for living, it's not a dress rehearsal, and he embraced all facets of life with a positive outlook and infectious enthusiasm.
Dessie was an inspired choice as captain of the Legends Golf Society, a role he performed with a natural charm from 2002 to 2004. The society honoured many distinguished figures in golf, including Peter Alliss, Peter Thomson, Christy O'Connor Snr, Doug Sanders, Michael Bonallack, Mark McCormack and John Jacobs.
Thoughts are with Jean, Una, Paul, Suzanne and the wider Stirrat family as Dessie leaves us and completes his formal accession to Legendhood!
