I am deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Lady Butler, the cherished mother figure of the Pestalozzi family.

Though she is no longer with us, the memories we shared will stay with me forever. I remember the first time she saw me; her smile said it all, she told me I will be calling you my Koko, and from that moment she became my second mother.

She believed in me deeply, trusted me, and always saw the bigger picture of who I could become. Thank you, mom Lady Butler, for all the love you gave me freely-for your words, your wisdom, and the countless lessons you taught me. I will never forget how much we always looked forward to your visits to Zambia.

I remember your last visit in Zambia, before heading back we hand our usual little lovely gossips just the way we always did, then you looked at me and said'' Koko, this might be the last time I visit Zambia, and the last time you see me, Please never stop being a good person -no matter how the world treats you, Continue being good''. That moment, and her words, are etched in my heart. I will forever hold on to them.
Thank you for seeing me for who I truly was. Thank you for loving me that way.

I am one of the first Thai Group of twelve children attending the Pestalozzi Children's Village Trust in the year 1966. In 1990, Sir Richard Butler helped to set up a Thai Pestalozzi Foundation to support poor and Thai students in need to receive education in their home land along the spirit of Pestalozzi of Head, Hearth and Hands. We can not thank Sir Richard Butler enough and also can not forget to thank Lady Butler who was always by his side on many occasions that they have attended the Pestalozzi Re Union held in Thailand. Lady Butler has shown much kindness and interest and support to our Foundation and young students who found her warm and radiant smiles captivating. I understand that she has shown the same love and commitment to other Pestalozzi organizations as well. So it is with great sadness to receive news of her passing. I pray for her and very certain that her good karma will protect her.

Some people touch your life so deeply, you carry them with you forever. Lady Butler was one of those rare souls. I still remember how she once made me sit on her lap, holding me like a daughter — it made me feel so loved and safe. She and Sir Richard, my godparents, didn’t just support me — Lady Butler sponsored my entire education, believed in me, and never asked where I came from. To her, we were children with dreams. She and Sir Richard even sold their beautiful London home to support children like me. Her love knew no borders — she had children across the world. This year, as we welcome the newest batch at Pestalozzi Ranchi, her absence is felt deeply. To honour her legacy, the home will now be called “The Lady Diana Butler Home” a place that carries her name, her spirit, and her eternal love. We miss you dearly, Lady Butler. You’ll always be with us.

I first met Lady Diana in 2009 when I joined the pestalozzi family. We sang and danced to welcoming songs as she and Sir Richard walked down the little aisle we had created. She smiled. She gave us warm hugs like she had known us all our lives. She was love and she gave it to all of us unsparingly-in full. She was hope to us. A light that shone through our darkness. Kindness that borders, distance and boundaries could not limit or stop. I received the news of her passing with such a heavy heart. I cannot begin to imagine what Sir Richard and the entire Butler family are going through. I am sending them love and prayers through this difficult time. May her soul rest in eternal peace and may God comfort the Butler family, her friends and the entire pestalozzi community.

Lady Butler touched so many lives in the very best way. I will always remember her grace, warmth, compassion and kindness. I am forever grateful for the love and generosity she had for the children at Pestalozzi. I was one of those lucky children.

My mother,the mother of Many, learning of your dismiss left me helpless.You loved the Pestalozzi children like your own.Condolences Sir Richard and the entire family.

I met Lady Butler only a handful of times as a child, but somehow, she made the kind of impression that lingers for a lifetime. I was one of many — a young girl from a small tribal family in Jharkhand — given an education through PCVS she helped build. It changed everything. Lady Butler didn’t know all our names, but she believed in something rare and radical: that children like me deserved more than just survival — we deserved possibility.

She sent us the most magical Christmas cards, the kind with tiny doors that opened one by one — a slow, paper countdown to joy. And whenever she visited, she came bearing sweets, which to us might as well have been from the moon. Her kindness was never loud. It didn’t ask for thanks. It just wrapped itself around us — polite, warm, and a little bit like her pearls: classic, understated, and always appropriate.

I think of her often, especially when I realise I’m standing in a life that was once far beyond reach. Her legacy lives not only in the system she helped build — but in the quiet confidence she gave children like me, simply by believing we were worth it.
