I was most distressed to learn of Don's passing as my own Dad Peter McEvoy also a Floor Manager in RTE in the early years passed away last week. I hope they are back together in each other's company. To say Don was a great Floor Manager is an understatement, he was a Colossus, always on the ball, razor wit and a great sense of humour, we loved him. He was a mentor to me when I was a Floor manager, and often when I needed it, a tormentor. Ní fheicimid a leithéid arís.

Very sorry to hear of Don's passing..great memories of working with him on RTE's big Drama productions...he brought such fun to the office with his wit, banter, and his famous expressions..Don was a once-off, and top man at his job...sincere sympathy to his wife Barbara and family RIP

An actor's dream to share a studio or location with Irwin and a scourge to Vile Reads, Wear-Outs and any Tormentors who might compromise his gifted, sensitive , ultra professional and deeply kind sense of duty to the project. He was a one-off. I admired him and learned so much from him, as myriads did. Magic Man. You'll all miss him Barbara, but WOW , what a legacy. Cherished. XXp.

Aw can't believe such a larger than life great character has left us. He filled any space he entered with his vibrant "turn of phrase" and good humour. Don is such a loss to all his friends and colleagues in RTE.of course nothing compared to Barbara's and his families loss. I will miss you Don my kindest and great friend, courageous, loyal, guick witted, and giver of great lashes...irreplaceable and never to be forgotten.

Barbara and family, deepest condolences on the death of dearest Don. It’s impossible to believe he is quiet now, as he kept all of us energised, laughing, challenging, creative … he was the heart and soul of RTE in the good old days. As a rookie producer he guided me with humour and wisdom to produce and direct the shows we did together. Special memories of the Red Hurley series. He was always there and cloaked under the humour was the best of men. We loved him and always will.
