We had the privilege of meeting Donal a number of times while visiting our wonderful friend Ellen (Donal's sister) in Newbridge, Co. Kildare. Donal was a lovely, caring, warm and very friendly person. We were very lucky to have known and met him. 1. Condolences to all of the Kennedy family on the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved Dan. Hard to believe he will not be around for our customary walks through the curragh camp when I’m back home chatting about our parents time there, memories of the various messes, the house the Lavelle family started in, Maureen and Patsy’s great friendship, Dan recounting the story (and I quote from a test from Dan on Fri 10th Jan this year) ‘I was told by my da when poring whiskey for your da… and when I went to put water in it he said, never water another mans whiskey. Your da approved by not having any water’. Classic of Dan to remember these lovely moments in such vivid detail. I also miss retiring to Johnsons for 4 fast pints (which always turned into 5!) and catching up on our journey. Hard to believe he won’t be around when I get back. When Patsy died I struggled visiting her grave and I talked to Dan about it and he said he did not go to Dan & Maureen’s grave much himself preferring to walk through the camp remembering them in situ, with their friends, working and socialising, full of life and thoroughly enjoying their journey. Dan, I’ll be doing the walk and drinking the pints in Johnson thinking the same things about you. Gone but never forgotten. RIP my friend.

Condolences to the entire Kennedy family circle. Still cannot believe Dan will not be discussing politics, history, the Camino, Kidare football, John Delaney, the FAI Napoleon and the price of a pint any longer with me of a Tuesday morning. Dont worry Dan. I intend to still stink the office out with a few kippers every Thursday morning when the world gets back on its axis. God rest you comrade. A gentleman and a scholar. Friend to all. They broke the mould when they made you. You are probably discussing the Battle of Austerlitz at this very moment with wee Bonaparte. It was such a pleasure to be your colleague and friend.

A true gentleman Dan, we will miss you especially on a Monday morning catching up on the weekend’s GAA action and as to which game you caught the end of in Johnsons. Very sorry to hear about Dan's passing. I first got to know him in NIHE Limerick in 1983 as we were both from Newbridge. Even then Dan was creature of habit and was always one of the first guys into College every day even if he had to walk. Dan was a total gentleman every time we met and I never saw him in bad form. One of the good guys.

Heartbroken to say our official goodbyes to Dan today. He’s been part of my life since I was born, my brother from another mother. I can honestly say I never saw Dan in bad humor, I’ll be looking for him and his back pack on the road every weekend. Such a pleasant companion and a marvelous conversationalist, amazing recall. Dan, I cannot believe such a lovely, kind man, gentleman and a charmer has gone. We did not interact much in the last few years at work, but when we did it was always fun and plenty of banter. I will never forget the week we had in Zurich at a workshop with Zurich Insurance We hit it off from the beginning as our hotel was right near that 'red light district' and we had much fun every night trying to avoid being picked up. Rest in peace Dan, it is a true statement the good die young. My sympathy go to your family and friends, who like me will miss you.

He remained keen to maintain the the Kennedy family connection with the Toomevarra area and it was always a pleasure to meet him on his visits. May he rest in Peace!
