It was with great sadness that I came to know of the death of Donal.
Donal and I were friends when we studied together at the then Milltown Institute for Theology and Philosophy in Dublin back in the early 1990's.
I live in Sydney and Canberra (Australia) now. I had not seen him for 30 years until we met up again in February of this year in Dublin when I was visiting, and then we exchanged emails and zoom calls regularly.
Even though we haven't seen each other for a long time I will miss him greatly.
Donal was a kind and gentle man who was always a good friend to me. A person of real faith and a compassionate heart with a care for the people on the margins.
Yes, a man of strong opinions and a love for fun and conversations. So much coffee. So many long conversations with fellow students. They were happy days.
I offer my prayers for him and his wife and son and all his family.
God bless you my friend and welcome you home. You will always be alive in my heart. Thank you for your friendship. I will treasure it always.

We couldn’t make Donals funeral in Summerhill but watched it later on-line.
His friend gave a Eulogy at the end of Mass which was one of the finest we’ve ever heard.

Godspeed Donal.
I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Mr. Digan's passing. Having been a student at Rosmini Community School and personally navigated the challenges of a visual impairment, I had the privilege of not just knowing him as a teacher but as a mentor and a friend. His departure leaves a void that words can never fill.
For me, and many others like me with visual impairments, Mr. Digan was a guiding light. His classroom was a place where we not only gained knowledge but also learned the power of resilience and the importance of lending a helping hand to our peers facing similar challenges. Through his guidance, I not only learned but also discovered my passion for teaching and supporting others, regardless of my own sight loss.
What set Mr. Digan apart was his commitment to students with visual impairments. He was a tireless advocate, fighting for the support and resources we needed, even when the odds were stacked against us. He was always there to ensure that we had every opportunity to succeed.
In my own journey, Mr. Digan was more than just an educator, but a friend who provided guidance and support through the ups and downs of life. His kindness and belief in my potential will forever stay with me.
My heart and deepest sympathies goes out to his family and friends, who, like us, have lost an exceptional human being who touched our lives in profound ways. May he rest in peace.
