Sincere condolences to the McCarthy family. I met Donal when I moved to Dubai in 2001. We had many great conversations over a few pints. He had a lot of good yarns from his travels & work. We even had an occasional row but never fell out.
He was older than the regular Irish crowd but mixed very easily & was liked by all. A very decent, generous sort.

Sincere Sympathy to all the McCarthy family on the very sad passing of Donie. I have very fond and happy memories of his time in London playing for the St Gabriel’s hurling club, he surely was a class act then on and off the pitch.

So sad to hear of Donnie’s passing. Great memories of trying to find the small ball, in Riyadh back in the 90s, amongst the stones and dust of a scrubby patch, our first pitch. And so Naomi Allee was born. Outside of work we had a new family to belong to and adventures to have. It opened up a whole new way of life and boy did we enjoy it. The impact that Donie had was significant and his love of GAA was evident in every hoop he jumped through to promote the game in the Middle East. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I had the privilege to meet Donie, one of life's true gentlemen, in Dubai around 2008, in Fibber McGee's if I remember right, and then at Sedar Village in Saudi Arabia.
