Dear Carolyn and family, we were so sorry to hear of Donal’s passing. He was a gentleman and a wonderful neighbour, always so kind to us and our daughters. We enjoyed many happy conversations over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
My sincere sympathy to Donal's family. I had the privilege of meeting Donal through his work with the John McCormack Society. As curator of the Irish music collections at BC's Burns Library, I am especially grateful for the reception and hospitality that he organized in Dublin in 2018. He was welcoming, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to know.
Dear Niamh and all the MacNally family,
My colleagues and I at Boston College feel greatly the loss of our beloved friend and neighbor across the corner in Stephen's Green.
Donal was one of the first people I met when I began visiting Ireland in 2015 following my appointment as director of BC's Burns Library, which houses the largest collection of letters, photographs, recordings, memorabilia and other artifacts pertaining to John McCormack. Donal arranged a very special welcome that included a visit to McCormack's home in Booterstown with fellow members of the John McCormack Society, which Donal led for many years. I retain very vivid and warm memories of that visit and the many others he organized in subsequent years, including receptions he hosted as a member of the Stephen's Green Club. Donal's hospitality, his cheerfulness, his lively interest in others will always be remembered by me and my colleagues with much fondness.

To Mrs. MacNally, Donal, and all the MacNally family, our sincerest sympathy to you all. Donal was always a bit ahead of his time, with his amazing business ideas and marketing skills. He changed the face of Optics in Dublin and touched the lives of so many people who worked for him over the years. He was a legend. He could have run the country with his charisma and amazing personality. Our thoughts are with you all during this sad time. Warmest regards,
To: Donal, your Mum Carolyn, your Siblings, and extended MacNally Family members.
We were so sorry to hear of your fathers recent death.
Having missed his Funeral Mass, we tuned in yesterday, and listened to what can only be described as, 'A beautiful and memorable farewell Ceremony' for a very special human being.
Donal, we never had the privilege of knowing your Dad, but given the visual likeness between both of you, there is no doubt, his image will never be forgotten. He certainly came across as a very genuine, and hugely likeable human being, full of warmth and generosity.
Although gone physically, spiritually he will forever remain a huge presence in all your lives, and certainly a beacon of hope, as you journey throughout life's difficult path.
Remembering all the wonderful times you each had with your Dad, will forever keep him alive in all your hearts.
Please do remember, that the bond we have with our loved ones in this life, remains as tight as ever even in death. be it the drop of a leaf, or a floating feather, the signs are always there, allowing you to believe, that your dad is right there with you, every step of the way.
Thinking of you all, and remembering your special Dad in our prayers.

We owe a great debt of gratitude to Donal for his care and support for Sr Sheila, during her many years in Chile, and most especially since she returned to Ireland. Unfortunately, she is not well enough to be with you at this time. We would also like to acknowledge his support for the many Sisters he helped, professionally, during his working life.
