I've very recently started looking into our past family and I am sorry that I wasn't able to talk to him about it as he had said to me before when I was younger that he would like me to carry it on like my dad (Gerry) had been doing.

What a wonderful musician and singer he was, who without fail was the choir and the pianist at An Aifreann in St Michael's Church every Sunday for decades. I thoroughly enjoyed our chats after mass. Unfortunately, ní féidir liom bheith ann amárach. Ar dheis Ðé go raibh a anam dílis.

My deepest sympathy to you all on your sad loss. I had the privilege of being a pupil of Mr. O’Kelly in St, Mary’s, Creagh Lane a very long time ago. I have never forgotten his kindness and patience. He was quite an extraordinary educator for the time. Realising that a high proportion of Primary School children from that school at that time were likely to emigrate to provincial UK cities, he made sure they were familiar with UK geography and currency and much more. He was a truly wonderful Teacher and I treasure the time I spent in his classroom.

Family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and ex pupils are very much in my thoughts today as we mourn Dan’s sad loss together and pray especially for him!

Dan was my mum’s youngest brother and she always thought of him throughout her life as I did with great fondness, kindness and warmth!

Sadly we can’t be at Dan’s funeral due to family sickness, but will be with you in spirit, as we mourn him and celebrate his very long and wonderful life.

Dan always had a big smile and time for others and gave so so much more than he ever took from the world, especially in his love of teaching, Gaelic and his beloved family Phyllis, Brid, Cormac and Anne and his adored grandchildren and great grandchildren.

More than anything I will personally remember, his inner peace, gentleness, quietness, humility good humour and his passion and love of teaching Gaelic. We will ALL miss you greatly Dan ! RIP
