He was always so welcoming generous and pleasant to everybody.....Now he is reunited with his much loved wife Geraldine but of course has left a huge void in your lives..but will inspire you from a higher place..The great loving memories of your years with him will sustain you .. As a new member of St. Ignatius, Mr. Silke warmly welcomed me not only to his sacred JES but also into his blessed sanctuary honouring his wife Geraldine. A treasure of a man who very politely corrected my mispronunciation of his surname—straight away and with a loving smile. Sadly missed and remembered…always in my prayers.

I have such very happy memories of being part of the staff in the Cash & Carry and I will never forget Donald for giving me my first summer job - 5 fabulous years – treasured and very happy memories. It is a rare thing in life to meet a person as warm, kind and generous as Donal. He was a great friend of Coláiste Iognáid, students, teachers, and the Jesuit community, will all miss him deeply. The West will not be the same without his presence. I only got to know Donal in the past few years and I will remember him fondly. In a busy world, he always found time to share, listen and impart his words of wisdom. It was an absolute privilege to have spent time in his company.

Heartfelt sympathy to Gary,Carol, Don, Mary, and Olive on the death of your beloved Dad. From my first visit to Donal in 1996 to my last visit to him at Christmas 2022, I have to say he was a perfect Gentleman, a heart of gold (always gave me chocolates for Christmas). He always spoke about his close family unit and was extremely proud of that. He has left a wonderful legacy of love behind him. Your Mum and Dad are certainly reunited again as he certainly missed Geraldine alot. Donal touched the hearts of all who knew him and
