Our deepest sympathy on the passing of Doreen, many memories of getting lifts home from school and stopping to buy eggs in the North Strand or ice-creams on sunny days! Doreen and I shared Christmas cards up to very recently, she was always so alert and interested. Thinking of you at this sad time.

Hearing about your mother's death brought me back a very long way. It is staggering to think that your mother has been with us all the time from our school days until now. Clearly a wonderful person and lived a wonderful life. She has put it up to us to do as well.

I was very saddened today to hear of Doreen’s passing. She was a founding member and integral to the setting up of AWCH(I) [Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital Ireland] in 1970. I have had the privilege of knowing Doreen since I joined the Association in 1971 and I valued very much our friendship during all those years. My sincerest condolences to all the Balance family.

Mrs Ballance was our next door neighbour on Mount Prospect Avenue for a long time. Since I left home way back in the last century, I have only been speaking to her very occasionally. However, others in our family have maintained contact with her and have kept me up to date. Her family, in their bereavement, must be consoled to know that she is now with their dad and little sister. May she rest in peace.
