Linda Alex Nicholas and I are unable to believe the void Alan’s passing has created.
He was a wonderful husband,father,brother,uncle and friend to so many! Alan was an inspiration in our lives, a role model,”the complete man”. He medical vocation helped and healed many and his compassion and good humour was seen by so many patients colleagues and friends.Alan embodied the meaning of Christianity, lived each day to the full and left all who knew him with knowledge they had met someone very special!
We know he is in a better place and may he continue to inspire us by his legacy.
Our deepest condolences and sympathy to Mary,Julie,Stephen and Ellen. May you be comforted by the tremendous admiration and affection in which Alan is held by so many. May he Rest in Peace.

My heartfelt sympathy to Alan’s wife and children . I met him at one of the lowest times in my life and he promised me he would ‘ get my eyes smiling again’. He did !! He made me laugh many times with stories of his children and spoke with such love about his family. He was a true gentleman and a fantastic doctor. May his kind soul rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Dr Byrne. I had the pleasure of working with Dr Byrne for a few months in Athy and he always had time for a chat. He will be so greatly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

I met Alan many many years ago - even then he was legendary. A gentleman and a super psychiatrist. So very sad to have heard the news.
My sympathies to you Mary and the family. Alan was such a character. He made the dull days as a medical student in the 70s much brighter - and gave a wonderful talk at our 30 year reunion ten years ago. We will all miss him at the 40 year reunion this year. His like will not be seen again.

We've worked with Alan on a professional and personal level and we're so sorry to hear of his passing as he was always such a gentle loving person. I think you know what I felt about Alan....the same as everyone else, kind, compassionate, generous with his time, great company, funny and the life and soul of any gathering. I feel so sorry for everything you've been through and I thought about you everyone day, more than once. Sincere sympathy to Mary , Julie Stephen and Ellen on your dear husband and loving Dads passing . It was Such a privilege to have worked along side Alan since his arrival in kildare in April 94 . Always in good humour and a kind word for everyone he encountered. He spoke so lovingly of you Mary and each of the children - we knew you all thru the many many stories over the 29 years he spent in south kildare He Even managed to get locked into health centre on occasion he was so dedicated to his profession and has to be rescued by Fergus , who lived near by . So so many good times over the years .So many funny stories . He was a howl … There will never be anyone quite like him really . His manner and capacity for kindness and empathy truly made him unique .He made our work easier our days brighter and We had a great team spirit because of him . Totally reliable and unselfish , sometimes late for clinics because he was helping someone else on the way. Rest in Peace dear Alan .
